Wiley CPA Excel Course Questions

Ok so I just finished up the last of my 150 hours and want to sit as soon as possible, but more importantly want to pass on the first attempt. The partner at my firm passed 15 years ago with Becker and he swears by it. Another girl at my firm just bought it and that’s what she’s using obviously. The bottom line is, Becker is out of the question due to the cost. I just simply can’t afford it at this point in time. But I’ve read enough to know that you don’t have to get Becker to pass. I’m pretty much sold on Wiley CPAExcel because of the cost and the “never expires” guarantee, although I can’t imagine taking longer than 18 months to pass. At any rate, the website is very confusing and even with the free trial I’m still confused as to what I get with the Silver course. I don’t give a crap about the mentoring, etc…but are the MCQs at the end of each section the Wiley Test Bank? Is the Wiley Test Bank included with each section? I’m planning on purchasing the Ninja MCQs to go along with each section, but just wanting general opinions from anyone that’s used the Silver course recently and what their experience was. Thanks in advance!

I have CPAexcel Platinum bc I got my employer to pay for it. I didn't choose Becker bc I like bite sized lessons (although Audit is boring as hell) and the never expires guarantee like you mentioned. Anyways, the Wiley practice MCQs are different than the Wiley test bank Qs. There is some overlap but mostly different. Ninja MCQs are also different with little overlap, but getting them both can only help.

@kingpasty – I just looked at the silver package and I don't see where it comes with the test bank. The only one that does (as far as I can tell) is the platinum. I would call/chat with Wiley to confirm what you are getting, though.

I have the platinum package and don't use half the materials (flashcards never, focus notes barely) and really regret getting them. I wish I had done more research and really tested out the trials before I made a decision. I have since purchased the Ninja 10 point package and so far that is the material I prefer (we will see how well that works for me after REG).

Also, I wanted to note that with Wiley you only have access to the test bank for 1 year. I purchased my package last November to take advantage of the student discount since I had graduated almost exactly 90 days before getting it. It tells me when I log in that my access to the test bank expires this November. Which sucks, since I didn't start preparing for any exam until April. Oh well. You live and learn.

CPAexcel is just OK but I don't have much to compare to. I have the platinum and the only platinum part I use is the virtual series lecture and even then I don't think it's all that helpful. I think all you really need is the video lecture and book. You can save money and get Ninja MCQ.

I have the Wiley CPAExcel Platinum and I liked it. I compared to some Becker video lectures from a friend to test and I found Wiley a lot of better because its small bites lectures, specially for someone in my situation – 7 years out of School, and not an accountant.

I took the FAR exam on July 20 (results only on Aug 25). I'm sure I didn't pass. But I also didn't have time to work all the lectures and mcq. I also could not postponed it since the NTS expires after 3 months. I am thinking of purchasing Ninja MCQs to go along with.

Thanks for the advice guys. I, too, am under the gun with the 90 day discount. I graduated May 16th, so I need to make up my mind if I'm going to go with them. I will def call and make sure the Silver comes w/ the Wiley Test Bank. Thanks, Jeff, for the coupon code. I've done their 14 day trial and I really like their videos so I think I'll probably go with them…even if it doesn't come w/ the Wiley TB I'll get Ninja for each section…y'all think I'd be OK doing that? Thanks again for your feedback.
