    Wiley Question –

So I tried a writing SIM in CPAExcel and received a 40. Whoa! While my response was not necessarily super fleshed out, it was professional, in memo format, and free from grammatical error. I was under the impression that as long as it was in proper format, had proper grammar, and wasn’t completely wrong, it would be ok on the exam.

What gives? Anybody else using CPAExcel and having a similar experience?

I use CPAexcel and took BEC already. My only advice is to not waste your time practicing the written part. As long as you have the correct format, proper grammar and correct spelling, you'll be fine. I think I basically made stuff up on mine during the exam…and I passed with an 85. Focus on doing an excessive amount of MCQs (I supplemented CPAexcel's with Ninja) and that's what will help get you a passing score. Good luck!

@ASUalum – Thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear. I am about 70% through with the CPAExcel material, and the plan was to finish it and then just hammer Ninja MCQs relentlessly until my exam on 4/30. I feel better now, as it seems that my original plan is the way to go. What was your final trending score on Ninja, if I might ask?

I was trending close to 90% on Ninja MCQs when I took the exam…maybe that gives you some kind of idea of what to shoot for. My other suggestion is to not bother trying to understand the questions with very detailed computations. I feel like I wasted too much study time on some of those and it would have been better spent on studying COSO and IT stuff. Keep hammering out those MCQs and you should do just fine!
