    Hello All!

New guy here so let me provide some of my background. I have been at my public accounting job fresh out of college for about 7 months now. After much persuasive encouragement from my peers, I am finally taking a stab at passing this pesky CPA test. The application process is fairly straight forward, easily navigable. No problems there. The biggest question I have is regarding the CPA study materials. Based on my personal preferences, I have decided that the a self-study product would be best for me. I decided to buy some type of combination of the Wiley CPAExcel and/or Ninja products.

To get straight to the point, what was your experience with these products? What combination worked well for you?

The brief research I did favored the CPAExcel Study guides from Amazon and the Ninja Notes/MCQ. The only concern I have is that the correlation between book and questions will be too far off. Should I just stick to the Wiley Study Guide, Wiley TB and Ninja Notes?

Like I said before, very new to all of this so any and all responses are very much appreciate.

    Thanks!

I've been using CPAExcel and like it so far, especially for the AUD and FAR sections. I have the full course and the material between the book and the MCQ's can be quite different, which helps you learn more concepts instead of just answering questions on what you read, so I think less correlation can be a good thing. As far as what to buy, it would probably be best to buy an entire course and add a supplement later on if you're struggling with a section – seems like that would be a less risky strategy than trying to mix-and-match from the beginning.

Thanks for the response Tom. By full course, are you referring to the platinum package, Etc? I reviewed the materials that are included in each package and I feel reading, taking notes, then completing the MCQs will work best for me.

I completely agree though, I should try the Wiley products before I start mixing and matching.

I got the gold course with the books, lectures, offline access, etc. If you get through all the lessons and don't do well on the practice test, or if the lessons seem impossibly difficult, then it would probably be wise to add a supplement. I was really struggling with the REG material and bought the NINJA book, which does a great job of explaining the material.
