    Wiley Question –

I have recently purchased CPAexcel gold and I have yet to utilize the textbooks and video lecture, but I am reading and taking notes on the study text. Next I would do the MCQ and simulation for each topic and I would go back to understand and redo the MCQ that I got wrong. Am i using CPAexcel correctly to study or should I also read the text books since there might be materials that I am missing out by just using the study text? I also plan on supplementing with Ninja MCQ.

I have personally used CPAexcel for regulation paper. I found the material quite lengthy compare to others however, it really helped to understand the Regulation Paper. Answer specifically to your question:

    1) I understand that your approach is fine i.e. study and noting of important concepts. I suggest you to do the MCQs once you are done with one chapter as it will help to grasp certain important concepts.

    2) Use single text book along with MCQs of other providers like Ninjia MCQ or Gleim.

I am not clear about the section of your question ” Am i using CPAexcel correctly to study or should I also read the text books since there might be materials that I am missing out by just using the study text?”

    Best of Luck.

I've posted this before, but below was my strategy. I supplemented the Wiley Test Bank for REG and NINJA MCQ for AUD and BEC (If I had to choose, got with NINJA MCQ over the Wiley Test Bank). Each Actual exam I was within 3 points of my practice exam in CPAExcel. I didn't use the videos unless I had trouble understanding a topic. Good Luck!

For each days assignments using the study planner

Day 1 – Read the text, do PQs in study mode, and then EQs in study mode

Day 2 – Did EQs in Exam mode and SIMs if required.

If I got a 90 is was done with that lesson

If I got less than a 90 I would take some notes and then try again the next day

I took 2 weekly review quizzes (30 questions each). One over everything I learned that week and one over everything I've learned so far.

When I got through all the lessons I went back and started back at lesson one and took the EQs in exam mode using my 90% or retake the next day method. This served as an awesome final review. Took me about a week to accomplish.

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

That's exactly the way I used CPA Excel. I purchased the cheapest option available, which didn't include books or videos. It was like $700. I was under the assumption that the study text from the online version was the same exact information as the text book, but I could be wrong.

When i did my sections i did not utilize videos but that was due to time constraints. However, i did make sure to understand the text and would often go back to clarify some of the concepts that were still foggy. A good feature for a review and to keep yourself in a loop is to take a screen snapshot of whatever you need to remember. I use an ipad to study and whenever I'm bored or on a subway commuting to and from work ill scroll through the pics of the material taken.

In addition, i heavily utilized the study mode when it came to mcqs and sims. After covering the text i would start with pqs, move to mcqs and finally sims. Any questions i got wrong i would review / redo on a spot. (for pqs utilize a discussion board for an explanation, most of the time someone else had a problem with it in the past). If i had further problems with the material i would just google it and find an explanation / further examples that way.

For a review i would do a couple practice exams and than go through mcqs / sims and skim some of the txt sections.

I think text books contain the same text material as you would find in the electronic copy of the course.

I plan on doing the way @OKC has stated. I never really have used CPAExcel like i should have for my exams. I am about to have my FAR retake and was on a huge time crunch so didnt get to do the studying i wanted to. I am thinking i might just try and take one test per window until i start to pass them other wise i am just wasting money at this point buy not studying the correct way.

@kyle.brown, about 8 weeks. That was a couple weeks to long. Probably could have been done in around 6 or 7. FAR was my first exam so I really didn't know if what I was doing was effective so I might have over studied.

    REG - 88

I started with CPAExcel until I realized that I was wasting a lot of time with the extra information that they teach. I recently switched to Beckers and I feel much more confident.

My coworkers used becker / cpa excel / yaeger and some of the older candidates other ones. We all agreed that it doesn't really matter which course you use. As long as you gain understanding / mastery of the material outlined in the review course you should be good to go come test date.

I'm actually happy with CPA excel. When i took FAR none of the MCQs really surprised me. However, i feel like their final exam and sims modules need work. When i took their final practice exams i was usually done within 3hrs with a really good average. Come test day i actually run out of time and got whipped on 3 sims. I was horrified and thought i failed.

At the end it worked out.

I do have some suspicions regarding the AUD section though. It seems easier than it should be. For now I'm just rolling with it.

@okcpa – How many hours a day were you studying? I saw you post on a different thread and tried your method for REG, but I'm in the middle of it and a tad behind per Wiley (I've been using Ninja primarily) so I wasn't feeling like it was helping. But I start studying for FAR in a couple of weeks and since it clearly worked very well for you, I might try it at the beginning and see if it helps. I have about 9 weeks budgeted for FAR currently.

There's no way I can do the before work. I'm not that good, and I'm not a morning person AT ALL. I study at lunch and then for 3-4 hours every night, plus who knows how many hours on the weekends depending on what's going on.

I used CPA excel, used only the videos and MCQ's, I took notes when watching the videos and looked at the study text a few times to clarify something that i took notes on when they were not that clear looking at them again the next day/week later.

I supplemented with NINJA MCQ for REG, which is an amazing product. I did the CPA excel MCQ's for each section not long after watching the video to help grasp the video concepts, i used NINJA MCQ for multiple section exercise.

This worked for me, everyone is different. Good Luck
