Yeager vs Roger

I have been out of school for six years and have taken the CPA exam using Becker and exam matrix in the past and failed. Well after taking a few years off from the exam I want to start studying and retake the exam this year. However I don’t know which exam review course to take. I work long hours as a tax accountant and have been in tax since college. I need something that teaches concepts since I have been out of school for six years. With Becker I just felt I was memorizing and highlighting everything and not really learning the concept of why. I also feel Becker is for newly graduated candidates. I also would like a course that will motivate me (which is something I lack) and not completely bore me. I have been considering Yeager and UWorld Roger CPA Review but don’t know anyone that has used either product. Which do you recommend?? Can someone compare the two?

I don't know anything about Roger, but Yaeger is a great teaching course. I've been out of school for almost 11 years, and they helped me pass FAR on the first try.

It really depends on how you learn: Roger is more energetic, Yaeger is more traditional. You might like one style over the other, but better is really in the eye of the beholder. Both of them use Wiley as their homework, which is what you'll be spending most of your time with. Try their samples on their websites and see which one speaks to you and, most importantly, which one will motivate you to study.

Oh, and if it means anything, I passed with Roger on my first try. And my friend whom I went to school with passed with Yaeger on her first try.

I started Roger for FAR a week and a half ago. I can say he definitely keeps the lectures lively, humorous, and moving along at a quick pace. You won't get bored. If your attention lapses for a couple seconds, you'll miss an explanation or detail. Believe it or not, I look forward to the lectures now. The lectures' upbeat pace help set the tone to dive into reading and MCQs on my own for the next couple days. Since I just started, I don't know how the learning style will translate to the exam for me but I know its much easier to study and stay interested with Roger than the few minutes of lecture I saw of Becker or Yaeger.

Oh, and Roger gives a pretty fair discount if you have already purchased a certain $ amount of another company's review material and show proof of previous purchase. Knocks the price down pretty good.

Lord, please give me a ready recollection of the things I have studied. Amen.
