UWorld Roger CPA Review Question –

If two huge and popular CPA review courses are using Wiley, then is it safe to say that buying the Wiley book by itself from Amazon is probably a pretty safe bet? I know myself, and Ive viewed the demos, so I KNOW that if I spent the money to purchase one of these more expensive review courses that I would zone out during the lectures.

My question is, besides the video lectures, what does buying the full course add to the review? If the practice MCQ and sims come from Wiley, then you are really just paying for the videos? Am I missing something here?

The only thing I can think of is that the video lectures and assigned questions help focus in on the most important topics, but then does that mean Wiley has alot of “fluff” that is not likely to be tested on, and Im wasting my time because I dont know whats important and whats not? Or is everything in Wiley pretty much covered in the video lectures?

I'm a Yaeger student, and I can honestly say it was some of the best $ I have ever spent. To say the Wiley book is overwhelming would be an understatement. Like Jeff said, they point out what you need to know in the book to get through the exam. Plus they have handouts for some modules which simplify and condense what is in the Wiley book. They also work through a lot of MCQ's and SIM's with you, and then give you a list of the ones you should be able to work to prepare for the exam. I feel like I am utilizing the precious time I have available to study better by having direction on what's important and what isn't.

I am also a Yaeger student and I believe it is $ well spent. The lectures provide you more explanation and detail than what the Wiley book provides. A good amount of time is spent on working MCQs which will help you understand what to look for in the question and how best to answer it…especially on some of the calculation problems. The book itself does not explain the variety of questions that could come your way on the actual test. It may give one example on a topic. The lectures really help explain the different questions that could be asked on a topic. Yaeger also provides really good tips and explains ways questions are worded to try to trick you. They also tell you what they think you don’t need to waste time studying. Overall, my experience thus far with Yaeger has been positive and I would recommend supplementing the Wiley book with Yaeger.

Despite all its errors and typos, I think Wiley is the best CPA book you can use. However, the book still has a lot of fluff that you don't need to know for the exam. Yaeger tells you what's important. There's so much material on this exam, so studying everything in the Wiley book could end up doing you more harm than good. So, I highly recommend a good review course like Yaeger.

the wiley books are a big long read. if i could read and retain information i would only buy the book. obviously u pay big bucks for the guidance help of the programs.

the MCQ in the wiley books are worth the buy itself. if you're on a super budget then i would get the books (i think it's like 100 total for all 4) and then do as many MCQs and use the text as reference when u get stuck.

i tried reading beckers book by myself and couldn't do it… i just can't retain information like that.

I've been using Yaeger. They work out the more difficult MCQs for you and explain it so that you can understand it. I probably would have wasted a lot of time trying to figure out some of these problems on my own with just the little answer blog in the back of the book.

I have a question. When I purchased Yaeger it came with the Wiley disc software. Should I buy the online software that Jeff is discounting 48%? I've heard that the online software is updated whereas the disc is not.
