I need help using the Ninja MCQ software

I just purchased the NINJA MCQ software and it is a bit confusing. I cannot find a tutorial anywhere! Also, I read the survival guide and it does not have any instructions on how to use it. I am just wasting precious study time looking up how to use this, so I am here.

What is this assessment bar? does it get filled by just doing any – random MCQs? Then it goes into adaptive learning – what is this? Is this going to be a different format? Nothing is explained.

Also, the SIMS are in no order whatsoever, or are they? I read the post where they are described with a word or two – but vaguely, some are labeled the same thing (e.g. research). I have to go into every single question to find the topic I am trying to focus on – another waste of time.

I’m sure this is a valuable tool, but can someone please give any input on how to use it? I am getting a bit frustrated.

    Thanks!!

This should help. Also on the site is a list of all the simulations. Just type Ninja Simulations in the search bar. I copy and paste the list in word and I just print. Which allows me to pick the sims by number and also cherry pick what I want to study.

In the left had corner is a custom mcq and sims tab. I usually click that and then on the next page I click categories and pick which section I want to work on. Once you pick the category, you can pick how many questions you want to go over and also you can pick if you want new questions, all questions, missed last time…

Another good thread. You can find quite a bit of information by searching. I think there is also a pinned post at the top of the page about Ninja MCQs

Thanks, but still a little confused after reading those threads.

For example, what happens in the adaptive phase. The threads say that once you reach 35% of the questions, you will reach the adaptive learning phase, but is this going to be different than just answering the questions you got wrong already?

Also, I did search for the list – that's what I was referring to in my original post. It doesn't help much since the labels are so vague – so you still have to go into the simulation tab, click “by number”, then load it so it takes a while. You can see how this would get frustrating after a while of not really getting the topic you want.

Here is an excerpt from the list:
    FAR Sim 7 (Research)
    FAR Sim 8 (Journal Entries)
    FAR Sim 9 (Balance Sheet)
    FAR Sim 10 (Income Statement)
    FAR Sim 11 (Research)
FAR Sim 12 (Units of Production)

There are two “research” sims here, which tells us nothing. There is also “journal entries”, which tells us nothing, since anything could be journal entries! There are also about 10 other “research” labels and a few other “journal entries”.

Everything seems a bit disorganized to be honest.

Thanks for your help understanding this, I am going to keep trying for a little while…

I guess all I'm saying, it would be nice if there was some kind of tutorial so I didn't have to go researching all day and reading forums. I just want to study!

So the adaptive phase is when the software picks questions based on your weak areas. It will picking more of those questions as it creates a quiz. If you just pick questions you got wrong then that is all you are practicing. Adaptive will give you questions from multiple areas but testing heavy on weak areas. I do have to say I do not get bent out of shape over the phases. I work through each section and pick new questions till I have gone through most of the questions. As I go through each section I get a sense of what I am weak in and then I will spend some time on those areas.

You are going to have to play around with the software to get an idea of how it is and then what works best for you. If you just want the software to pick questions for you or if you want to customize them.

I understand your frustration in terms of how the sims are labeled. I have yet to study FAR, however for Audit, when it says research, I just know its going to be a research question but never know what topic its going to cover. There are some that will say for example “planning” which lets me know that it will go over stuff in engagement planning. Looking at the list that you have provided I would assume if you are working through the chapter going over Income Statement items, then if you want to practice a sim in that area then you would pick that one. If you want to practice Journal Entries then pick the ones that say journal entries.

Unlike other review courses, Ninja MCQ does not bucket the SIMs under each specific topic.
