I just purchased Gleim CPA Review and I plan to take FAR this fall. I’ve been out of school for about 5 years so I am rusty on my accounting knowledge. Does anyone have suggestions for studying with Gleim? I greatly appreciate it!

I wasn't a gleim user but my advice is to simply dig in, early and often. Study a section, do a few MCQ, then get started on the next section. Get through the entire thing as quickly as possible, then eat a steady diet of MCQ and Sims. Use the reports from the MCQ sessions to show you where your weak areas are, then study the hell out of those. Mainly, work on it every day and don't get bogged down for too long in any one section.

You'll remember more than you think.

Jimmy, great advice! I think this approach will work well for me. I have a tendency to overthink things so I know it will benefit me to not spend too much time on one section.

Jimmy gives you a very good advice. I can add only my experience of using Gleim. I use it for FAR and followed their adaptive learning approach. It takes me 6 weeks to go over material and another 2 weeks for review. I studied 2-3 hours every day. It prepared me well especially for the sims.

Sashapalekha, thank you as well. Knowing how much time to study each week helps a lot. 2-3 hours a day plus a little more on the weekends will work great for me since I work full-time and have a family.

I’m in the same situation . Just set up schedule in gleim planner and try to stick with it no matter what. Good luck!

I'm a Gleim user. For FAR I supplemented with Roger CPA videos and Ninja Videos. Gleim does not “teach” you. So if you are weak in an area and need to go back to the basic concepts with T accounts, journal entries and debits and credits, I would definitely supplement with either of the two above or both! Specifically, use Ninja hot spot video for cash flow, was a life saver on the exam!

Gleim does not baby you around like some of the other courses do. Gleim throws a bunch of information at you and it’s your job to learn it by reading the book and answering lots of MCQs. I found myself YouTubing lots of FAR topics because I learn best by watching videos and not by reading. I ended up switching to Becker because of this. I’m currently using Becker and supplementing with ninja notes.

Does anyone know if studying Gleim for 1 hour each day works? Or does it have to be a little more than this?

@RaulB, as a Gleim user, I would respectfully suggest that this would not be sufficient. However, not knowing anything about how you learn, I would say, try it out! Gleim has a matrix. You read the chapter, which is sometimes as long as 20-30 pages of information (usually more information than is needed for the exam, but covers all bases). Then you attempt multiple choice and simulations. Simulations cement the concepts through higher learning and application skills. This process goes on with each unit, I don't see how you could cover in 1 hour per day. Do you plan on following the Matrix, or do you just want to read and hammer out MCQ's?

Hi Hamcpa2018, Thank you so much for your message. It was very inspiring to me. Do you mind if I can put my email here? I have a specific question. I can definitely see how 1 hour doesn't work that well. I think this goes with any course. I am also a firm believer of Ninja.
