Gleim FAR makes me dejected….

    I’m only 13 days from my exam yet I still have 5 chapters left: Derivative, Cash flow, Government 1, Government 2, NFP.

    Each chapter takes so long, the adaptive MCQ and sims kills me. Each adaptive test incorporates more quizzes from previous chapters. I’m already behind schedule no matter how hard I try to catch up. Either my efficiency falls behind at specific time point, or a stupid class assignment eats the majority of my day and pushes my CPA study plan back for a day (Arghhhhhh!)

    The Gleim test banks are nice. But they are indeed hard and sometimes the books doesn’t explain well. In some cases, I feel there is inconsistency in what’s explained in the books vs the adaptive quizzes.

    I have set up a deadline for myself to finish 5 chapters in 2 1/2 days (by Sunday 4/9) so that leaves me a week and 1/2 for final review.

    I hope it works out. I hate FAR. Most of the quizzes I deal with are designed to trick you (throw a tidewave of info at you, and asks you to sort it out).

    If there is anyone who is also using Gleim, please tell me how to crack 1 chapter of book+adaptive quiz of that chapter per day. Currently I am finishing the MCQ of Business combination.

    Welcome.

    What's that quote Peter Olinto about misery and likeliness to pass the exam?

    I feel your pain man.. I'm also studying for FAR with Gleim and the material is brutal! I haven't scheduled a test date yet (thinking May) because in the past, I would schedule then run out of time because I haven't finished the material, felt rushed, didn't recap, and only half of the concepts soaked in.. Not saying you wont be able to pull it off because many folks have crammed and pass – but with me – the test sees my SOUL and knows that I suck at retaining and drains my life out.lol. ANYHOW good luck and I do wish you all the best.. Let us know how you feel after taking 🙂 Inquiry minds want to know (like me)

    AUD - 74 (3x), TBD
    BEC - Sept16
    FAR - TBD
    REG - TBD

    Focus on Cash flow, Government 1, Government 2, NFP as if your life depended on it. They comprise a large chunk of the exam.

    FAR Gleim makes you feel like you haven't learned a thing after four weeks of studying. The bright side is that the actual exam's questions are not as tough as theirs if that helps.

    Just stick with it and you will be surprised by your score after the release. I felt the Gleim questions to be a lot more difficult than the actual exam.

    I hated Gleim. I had to use it for MBA classes for AUD and REG. Needless to say, I used it as little as I could, although the third time I took AUD it and Becker helped a lot. So no experience with FAR or BEC, but I can assume the experience is at least similar.

    Gleim is overly complicated and does not explain the material well at all. The actual exam will not come close to being as hard as Gleim. Learn the material through any method, then if you feel dejected by your MCQ scores, try out Ninja MCQ, it is much easier, but is more of an accurate representation of what you will see on the actual MCQ on the real thing.

    Although I'm studying for REG with Gleim, I am experiencing the exact same thing. I used Gleim for BEC and AUD last quarter and it worked like a charm! But this quarter… it keeps making me go back and re-read, re-test, etc. etc. I am having a much harder time keeping up. I think I might just overrule the program and move on to the next chapter when I've felt like I've had enough.

    It's funny, I put in my planner that I could study 5 hours a day. It's done the math and thinks I can finish approximately a module a day (therefore 1 module ~ 5 hours). But each module is more like 7 hours if I get to where the program thinks I'm “ready to move on”. So frustrating.

    Gleim looked brutal for FAR. I looked at it – including the printed textbooks – before buying Roger. His chapters for Govt/Nonprofit looked great but the rest of them kinda scared me. But, I think Gleim is probably better for BEC and REG and I'm going to use it for that, probably Gleim text plus Ninja. I don't want to use Roger for those two sections.

    @Pokey,
    😂😂😂 funny how you say the test sees your soul, I kinda agree though it sure feels like you leave part of it as you walk out of the prometric center and it left my body for a few hours after seeing my last 73 score on FAR 😆

    I'm with martimann and pokey….I remember feeling uneasy about leases and pensions driving to my test and sure enough, on testlets 2 and 3 I had lease and pension questions and a sim on each. The test knows me better than I do lol. I completely blame those two topics for my last fail.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

    @cmcook,

    I really agree with you there. There should be a “mark section completed” button that overrides the software determination of whether you finished or not. One section I completely bombed the first sim and it made me take like 6 more sims to get my average up high enough to mark it completed even though I was scoring 90s on them.

    When it comes to Gleim, there is a feature on the test bank called “study Session”. This feature will give you explanations on each right and wrong answers to each question.

    @skynet has it exactly right. Focus on the study sessions. READ THE EXPLANATIONS. I learned so much from these. It's important to read them all because it is so important to learn why some answers are wrong…probably as important as learning why the correct one is correct.

    I used gleim for all four sections. Very rarely was I scoring above 60% in gleim. It's disheartening at the time, but I passed all the exams and now I'm pleased with what Gleim did for me. Getting questions wrong sucks, but it will get you through the exam.

    Gleim's test bank is tough. It beats your ass. But the MC you see on the exam is definitely not as difficult as what you see in the Gleim test bank IMO.

    Currently studying FAR with Gleim, just got through REG. When I took REG I was getting tortured by the system and my scores on the quizzes and Sims. I took the Exam Rehearsal one week out from the test and got a 65%. Confidence killer.

    Ended up having a good test experience though. Only one question on the whole REG exam was unfamiliar to me and I ended up really please with my score.

    My take away was the Gleim destroys you, but they show you everything so nothing feels like a curveball at the test. And I definitely feel like the Gleim questions were harder than the exam questions…but I'd rather have it that way than vice versa.

    I'm hoping Gleim prepares me for FAR as well and it did for REG…just working the system and trying not to lose my mind when the quizzes are HORRIBLE.
