    Ive added Gleim CPA Review MCQ and SIM as im preparing for my second round for REG. Although i believe im much more prepared now compared to my first go around, but Gleim questions never seem easy as they can get very detailed with the questions. Anyone would like to share their experiences with Gleim?

    Gleim REG was like on steroids. They really cranked up the difficulty a notch. If you can master Gleim, you'll have no trouble on exam day.

    @Anthony is right on.

    Gleim REG was soooo hard. Crushed my spirit. And it was the first test I took so I didn't know what to expect. Luckily, I felt like Gleim really prepared me well, as there was just about nothing on the actual exam that I hadn't seen before. I scored very poorly on Gleim's practice exam before the final review, but snagged a 90 on the actual exam. Stick with Gleim.

    Of course, now Gleim is destroying me as a study for FAR and so I'm constantly reminding myself to not panic over how poorly I'm doing. Hopefully the magic for REG will continue with FAR. 🙂

    Be careful with Gleim. The MC questions are intense. The SIMS were very fair for FAR, completely inadequate for AUD and nearly impossible for BEC.

    Look at the sample questions on the AICPA site to get a MUCH better idea of what you'll see.

    One thing I did on BEC (since I knew the test wasn't going to be as hard as the Gleim SIMS) was I used the more difficult MCQs in Gleim as SIMS. I took the sample questions on the site and looked for MCQs that could be turned into something similar. Got me a 93 so I'm not complaining.

    FAR – 81
    AUD – 83
    BEC – 93
    REG – ?

    @alloverit I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Gleim BEC SIMs are nearly impossible. I can't complain too much because getting beat up through the Gleim review, I feel like I take less of a beating on exam day.

    So far I feel like Gleim has been harder than the exams. But it will help you pass.

    lmao at Gleim's BEC sims. Yeah they had me depressed for some time. Until I went on the AICPA website and saw they're practice sims were jokes compared to gleim's, my confidence went through the roof. I haven't started Gleim's REG material but I'm positive that when you master gleim's practice test, you will be more that prepared for the actual exam.

    So yeah, I freaked out over the weekend because of how bad Gleim was beating me up for FAR. And I KNOW better, I know that it's wicked hard but then you're really prepared for the test, blah blah blah, and I STILL freaked out. It's such a confidence killer when you think you know something and then you get a 60% on the first practice quiz.

    Last night at 1am I was googling about how difficult Gleim is, but how effective it is, just to reassure myself. That's how insane this review system is making me. It's so hard that I forget my own advice about it.

    7 days until FAR, 3 more Gleim units to go, then HAMMERING the multiple choice…hoping to survive…

    It's good reading all your posts and hearing this about Gleim. I just bought the test bank for REG to supplement with Becker.

    Thanks.

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    @lauren, I'm right with you. I have a REG retake Friday. As of yesterday I started to question this whole thing based on Gleim's mock score, and I too know better. If it's any consolation, I scored 55 on FAR's mock exam and 75 on the real exam. And I had zero clue on 60% of the sims.

    Good luck to us both.

    @cmcook, yes it is helpful to a) know I'm not alone, and b) to be reminded that I don't need to get everything right on the test to pass it. I'm used to school tests where I'm trying to get 100 so if I'm totally thrown off by something it feels like the end of the world. And that's not the case with this exam, so I think remembering that during the test, if I start to panic, will help. 🙂

    And yes, good luck to us both! Defeat REG! You got this!

    I used Gleim for all four sections. I thought it was super helpful for all sections except BEC. That being said, I've talked to friends who used other programs and it seems like none of them are great for BEC. BEC is a super random set of nonsense information all shoved into one exam. For the actual CPA info exams (REG, FAR, & AUD) I thought Gleim did a great job preparing me…The key for me for success with Gleim is to learn MORE from the questions you miss than from the ones you get correct. Gleim explains why answers are wrong and for me, that was huge! Read the explanations for ALL the incorrect answers as well as the correct one. That will help you escape the trick questions on the exam. I never had passing grades on my Gleim practice exams, but I passed all the actual CPA exams.

    For someone studying with Gleim only, do you have any advice for studying for the BEC section?

    #1662562

    I haven't used Gleim, but used Becker & Wiley in the past. Currently using Ninja Sniper package for my FAR/REG/BEC for Q4 2017 exams.

    Based on my experience in Q3 of 2017 actual exams, you'll be fine with:

    AUD/REG/FAR – using Becker, Wiley & Ninja (Assault package), or Ninja Sniper package (if you have other supplementary materials). As long as you do everything on it. In addition, you must visit AICPA website for Sample Tests & read the ‘Blueprint'.

    REG – With Becker, Wiley, & Ninja, you need a little help with the SIMs somewhere else. Just check the AICPA website Sample Tests & the ‘Blueprint', you'll know what I mean.

    The AICPA Bluprint: https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ExaminationContent/DownloadableDocuments/cpa-exam-blueprints-effective-20180101.pdf especially for all SIMS (REG/FAR/BEC/AUD).

    Good luck.

    @tim no, sorry. I went about it the same as the other sections. Read the chapter, hammer hard on the questions and read all the answers. The material of BEC is just so different. You'll need to assess yourself and figure out how to best learn the material. It's just a strange section. The plus side is the book is much smaller and the chapters go quick.

    Maybe I was too hard with my opinion with REG, my apology.

    All the info for the exams (if you follow your Becker, Wiley & Ninja CPA Review Material providers) are there. Make sure you go over ALL your MCQs, for ALL sections.

    The new format SIMs is too new, the reason why there aren't that many out there. Compensate it with your MCQs, know the concept really well. Pay attention to explanations even if you got the answers ‘correct'. Read ALL MCQs explanations.

    Also for SIMs, the closest chance to maximize your score (50%) is to do a lot of MCQs, knowing all the topics well, AICPA site's Sample Tests & Blueprint, time management during the exams, meaning, do your MCQs with accuracy & speed. So, you got that extra time for SIMs.

    With SIMs, be imaginative. AICPA's Sample Tests & Blueprint is a good start.

    Lastly, BEC's IT topic can be a challenge during the exam. After briefly going through Becker, Wiley, & Ninja, both for BEC/AUD IT materials, I am still worrying a little with the IT contents.

    @Dewdewyah – Awesome scores, escpecially AUD. I assume you passed all in the 1st attempt.

    I also have Gleim, but have not passed a section yet. Can you share your study methods using Gleim?

    I am preparing for AUD now. I felt Gleim units 8.1 & 8.2 did not make sense to me. Please share some tips for AUD or share a link or your post with tips. TIA

    FAR - < than 75, 10/2013, 2/2015
    BEC - < than 75, 10/2013
    AUD - < than 75, 8/2015, 1/2016
