I promised this sometime back, but here is my opinion of Becker’s Final Review supplement to REG:

I failed REG the first time through with a 70. This was my first exam and I spent about 3-3 1/2 weeks studying for it while attending a week of pubic accounting training for my job. Needless to say, I was not as prepared as I thought I was. I decided to take all of the rest of the exams before trying again as to encourage myself to study harder since I would not remember thinking I knew how to do something that I actually did not know… if that makes sense. I passed BEC with a 79, AUD with an 82, and FAR with an 80. Because I hated the idea of spending a couple of hundred bucks and an additional month of studying to take REG a third time, I went ahead and purchased Becker’s Final Review for REG. It was a couple of hundred bucks but when you know you suck at REG to begin with, I figured I’d save myself an extra month of studying if I didn’t have to take it a third time. What I did for my 3 success stories was read the Becker book and perform the questions twice, take the final exams and study up on my week areas, then read the book again the day before my exam. Essentially, the Final Review took the place of the 3rd time I would read the book. It gave me a nice overview of all of the material that was note worthy and reinforced it with questions I hadn’t seen 3+ times. I used it the last two days of my studying and pulled an 80 on REG. I feel it was worth it for me, especially since my score improved 10 points. But also in this time I’ve learned how to better study and attack this exam. I did have a Master’s level tax class during that time, but I had sufficiently forgot everything about it by the time I had sat. Thanks Jeff for this site that I will no longer be religiously checking more than my e-mail. I’m happy to say that I passed this exam, praise Christ! Good luck everyone!
