How to Handle Becker CPA Review SIMs

So I’ve been through the Becker CPA Review content a few times now (it’s been a long journey). It never fails, no matter how dedicated to studying I am (or not) I can’t seem to find the motivation to complete the SIMs for each module during the week when I study which is after 9PM. Therefore, SIMs will likely get done on weekends when I have more time to dedicate to such a long problem.

Does anyone else mind sharing their plan for completing SIMs or is anyone else facing the same struggle?

    Hi

I am also using Becker and Ninja, at the beginning I too was struggling with SIMS but after a while if you really know the content well, it really is like a MCQ just with no choices. take one exhibit at a time (depending on what section your taking) and pay attention to the specific instructions(like negative or positive numbers or putting down a zero or leave cell blank) I would tell you to set a schedule very day to do at least one SIM, doing them just at the weekend may not suffice. Even if you get a lot of cells wrong the first time around you will get better at them slowly. Watch the Becker VIDS on how they answer the SIM then do it again your self. Each SIM shouldn't take more than 20-25 MIN Tops so I don't see why not it shouldn't get done during the week also.

A small tip that may help, which helped me in FAR, when doing MCQ don't look at the 4 choices and get the answer before looking for the choices, you are basically doing small miniature sims.

    good luck

I guess since I do a module or two a day I dread the 2-4 SIMs that come along with it. But I supposed one a day shouldn't hurt too much.

Thanks for the tip! That's a good way to look at it.

Also, did you ever attempt to leave the SIMs until the end, if at all? I've heard some who have Becker say they focus on understanding the concepts and then if there's time at the end (after all material has been covered) they will practice SIMs. In my case, I've seen the SIMs before so I know what to expect it's just a matter of getting the content right if that makes sense.

I never do a SIM with out going through the material and knowing the content. As I said earlier I use sparring, make sure I know the topic then the real work begins, non stop MCQs writing anything new and adding info. And at the same time doing SIMS, also watching the SIM VIDS helped me approach the SIM and learnt the language the AICPA asks the questions and important points to look out for. Because if you “really know ” the material SIMS should be no problem. Like for insist just took REG and watched pretty much all the SIM vids on Becker and went through all the tax sims. we will see how I do with this tactic in a week or so.

But anyways, SIMS should be done after the content has been gone through, and after you have written all the notes which will then allow you to add anything you got wrong on the SIMS and then you can see if you really know the content.
