Gleim vs. Becker (REG) Retake

I know this question has probably been discussed before, but I really would like to gain some more insight.

For those that have used the Gleim TB specifically for REG, is it simply too detailed? It is my understanding that their TB contains questions from the Enrolled Agent exam. I am scoring relatively high on my Becker progress tests, but any time I have decided to give Gleim a shot, the questions seem a lot more difficult / detailed / obscure. Given this is a retake, I am not trying to play any games, but at the same time I want to be efficient with my studying.

    Please advise!

It depends on why you think you failed the first time.
If you think you had a real deficiency in an area, Gleim may help you. It is very detailed. But Becker probably does a better job of teaching you how to study for the exam.
Gleim has a lot of content, but it's teaching methods are lacking compared to Becker from what I've seen.

I used Gleim for all four exams. If you're good at reading carefully and understanding the subtle changes in answers, then Gleim will work wonders. The Gleim stuff is very technical and does not “baby-step” through much of anything. I barely ever passed any of my practice tests on Gleim. For some, I think this would be very deflating, but I just ignored that as I knew the Gleim questions were tougher than the real exam.

My success with Gleim, I think, came from reading not only the correct answer reasons, but from reading the analysis on why the other answers were wrong. Gleim was a real drag to work through, but c'mon….it's the CPA exam. If the material seems fun and light, you're either crazy or not digging deep enough.

All in all, review course success depends on the individual. Take a really good look at yourself and analyze how you learn. Look at people's experiences on here and find one that seems similar to you and choose a course. Fingers crossed for you!

Appreciate the replies everyone! I think for now, I will stick to Becker to nail the concepts and then hit some of the Gleim MCQ during my final review to tie it all together. Either way, gotta go hard!

@Operations_CPA, I did what you're doing and that is second guessing if I know what I know and is it enough to pass. By doing that I wasted time trying different courses. Becker is good and I think you should use the Ninja mcq's to tighten it up if you will. Gleim might be good too, but for me when you add another course, the time it takes to learn the course take away from what you have already studied. Good luck to you. Just remember, there is no easy way to pass. (none that I know of anyway, please tell me if it is 🙂 )
