BECKER Studying without lectures

To my fellow Becker students: if all the material in the book was already highlighted and underlined, would you bother watching the lectures still? Currently without a DVD and based on some strategies discussed on this very website, I’m thinking that I should copy all the highlights and underlines into note format and skip watching the lectures. Thoughts?

It all depends on your personal preference. Myself, I have to watch the lectures or it just doesn't work for me. However, when I watch the lectures I do not highlight, underline, or take notes; I try to focus on what they're actually saying and let as much info soak in as possible. But that just happens to be what works best for me.

I do not call reading from a Power Pont teaching. I also do not study from the Becker book. I use the Becker book as a reference book when I am doing the multiple choice questions from Becker.

I've found the lectures to be useful and not useful depending on the subject matter. For REG the examples Tim gives really helped. In the ethics/independence/professional responsibility the lecture didn't really provide more than what I would have gotten just reading it.

The lectures that accompany Becker are tedious and irritating at some points, but I would say that since you paid for them and have them at your disposal, you should watch them each once. There were at least a handfuls of times during the three exams that I have taken that I remembered one of the cheesy examples that Peter or Tim gave in the lecture. Granted, I'm usually a little disgusted that I remember them, but a point is a point and in the end if watching the lectures means I can get through this crazy exam by taking each part only once, I will glady sacrifice the 4-8 hours each weekend to owatch them.

I think the reason they give cheesy examples is precisely to make it easier to remember them. Personally I don't care how cheesy or boring the lectures are (I had to play my favorite up beat songs a lot as breaks during the AUD lectures to keep from falling asleep) as long as I get a passing score. I'm with you there Halfwaythere, I'll put up with it if I have to do it only once.

It's personal preference. I would wach the lectures, however, I have found that if re-write the notes in some way, I absorb more than if I watch the lectures.
