Could somebody give me some insight on Becker. I originally bought Gleim which is about to expire. I paid $600 total for all 4 parts of Gleim Online & test prep. I was offered this because of a student discount. I now have the option of renewing at 169 per part. I took Auditing on 5/26 and have no idea if I passed. I don’t know if I’m willing to spend another 3,000 for Becker. How guaranteed is it? They are now offering the class at a local college nearby. Is it worth the extra $500 to attend class? Everybody from work tells me it’s impossible to pass without Becker. I was scoring in the high 90’s for every question Gleim had to offer, but I don’t think I passed Auditing because of the sims. Could anybody compare Becker to Yaeger?

    Please Help

    Audit Passed
    FAR Passed
    REG Passed
    BEC ??

Somebody said “my style of learning” – I agree with that. Becker is for people who cram. I personally can't study for more than 12-14 days for anything, so Becker with their very well organized lectures, certain amount of MCQ and study plans does it for me. I liked Yaeger lectures, but didn't have enough patience to actually spend time and learn with them, Becker just worked better for my personality. And their Final Review is amazing too.

Vern, if you really do plan on studying 200-300 hours for each section (YOWZA!!!!), I would go with Yaeger. They'll take 3 times as long to explain something as Becker does, but they'll obviously be a lot more thorough.

For me, Becker has been great. I've spent WAY less time than the “recommended study hours” for each section and have done pretty well so far.

I definitely agree with mh and Anna. Becker has fit my “style” pretty well.

I've become a Yegear Convert because of the 13 point jump from my audit score. I only used the Cram. Had I done the homestudy I probably would have passed the first time and not had to have taken the test again. So I'm doing Yaegar for BEC/FAR. Two tests I need to pass by the end of the year, or I'll lose credit for Reg. So far I'm in the IT section w/the Wiley book, not boring at all. When I attemped it w/Becker, I feel asleep. Couldn't get past that section at all.

I just graduated with my Master's and I'm starting a job in the fall, so I (and most of my classmates) are completing Becker's FastPass program. Basically, we just do all 4 sections in a really short amount of time. I did attend the live version, and while I know some instructors are helpful, mine weren't. Plus, I couldn't sit for 4 hours without taking a break (you have one 15-20 minute break in the middle, but I just can't stay focused for 2 straight hours – I would much rather take four 5-minute breaks throughout), so I switched to the online version. You definitely need to be more motivated to sit and watch all of the lectures, but I've basically locked myself in my apartment all summer to do so.

So far, I really like Becker, mostly because it is a review of what I've recently covered in school. However, due to the nature of FastPass, I won't find out my score on the first test I took until I'm almost ready to sit for the last. My goal was to get as many sections out of the way as possible before I started my job, so this is working for me, so far.

Becker claims an approximately 80% first time pass rate for all four parts with their FastPass, but I must admit I'm a little skeptical of that figure. Regardless, it is a great program for someone with a break between school and work, or someone who might be between jobs and be trying to make themselves more marketable.

Advice please…Jeff (or anyone for that matter)

I bought Becker (the whole she-bang that cost more than 4 months rent!) end of last year and they didn't have a Mac version. I ONLY have a mac avaliable so I tried running a windows simulator, ect…in the end it doesn't work well, really choppy video etc…so I've just made do by reading the books. It's working so far because I passed BEC first shot, but I feel ill prepared. However, Becker just came out with a Mac version! My excitement was quickly ended when they informed me they will not exchange my current software because I bought it before the new version! Any thoughts? There is no way in H#LL I'm rebuying Becker with that kind of customer service! Should I just keep doing the reading method or try a different study software (or is anyone really good at negotiations that might help me get Becker to change out my software?)

Thanks! I'm getting more than frustrated!

You might ask to speak to a supervisor and email your post. I am sure Becker may want to re-think their position. The study materials are very expensive and your request is resonable.

Push it up the chain of command and be sure they know you have posted your request and their response to a CPA forum that is visited by a great many people with review dollars to spend!

    Good luck

Does anyone have a supervisor contact at Becker, I have been unsuccessful in moving my issue up the chain of command because the agent that answers says the issue is resolved and closed.

They are so frustrating to work with! I can't believe this is the customer service you get when you spend that much money!

When you call Becker are you asking to speek to a supervisor or are you explaining to the person on the phone what is wrong?

If they won't let yo speek to somone in a higher position my next suggestion would be to send an email to the Becker support and indicate you are not satisfied with the support you have received.

If there is a live class close to you – perhaps going to the class and talking to someone from Becker face to face might get you some help.

I don't have Peter or Tim's email. But I bet we could find out – 7 degrees of seperation – somebody has to know how to contact these guys!
