Becker Material is Expiring

Work bought my Becker material for me, which is good, but I ordered them too soon, and had delays in getting approved to sit. No, my material will expire Dec 4, and I will still have to take AUD and FAR. Obviously, I still have the books and cards, but the CD with the practice exams and homework will expire. I can’t do another round and work won’t pay for it. Any ideas? I thought of doing an online program. I only need practice questions, as I thrive on taking the MCQs over and over again. It’s mostly how I learn the material.

Thats a bummer! I would have been lost without all aspects of my Becker! I definitely recommend getting some sort of software to work with problems & Simulations. FAR is a beast!

Any recommendations? I was considering doing Wiley online for 6 months for $299.

I personally only used Becker, so I have no personal experience with the other. However, I have seen people say great hings on here about both Wiley and Yaegar (which I believe are affiliated somehow)I think its important to be able to cram out as many MCQ's as possible the more variations of things you see the better.

    glutenator:

I think that you can call Becker's and they can extend the period to use the software!

I hope this help you 🙂

I don't think they will extend it for free at all. Thats the catch wtih that software, while you have 18 months to pass the exam that software is only licensed to you for 12.

You might be able to do it at a reduced rate though.

I know that if you've taken all 4 parts and completed all the required homework up to 90% with proof of that they will extend it, other than that I don't think they will do it for free.

Each section may have a different expiration time, I'm not sure on that it might be 90% for each section

I got them to extend my Becker for free b/c I told them that I had tests scheduled. And they extended mine for an extra 2 months for free. Its worth a shot-worst they can say is no.

I used Becker the 1st year & 3 months of my studying & switched to Bisk for my last 2 sections. Hopefully Nov 25th will be my last day I have to think about studying for CPA exam again!

Worst case you can go through the homework and print each question. This will get you the answer and the explanation. Or you can generate practice tests which will get you 50-100 questions at a time and the answers (no explanations though).

glutenator: If you need some good mc questions, I'd reccomend Gleim. I used it and passed all 4 sections on the first try. Each CD only cost like $60 and it has about 1500 questions on each CD. I think it's a really great deal. And the best part, Gleim tells you where they get the question (i.e. CPA Adapted, publisher, CMA, CIA, etc.). After taking BEC, I realized that it is pretty much pointless to do any of the questions that aren't CPA adapated…as I did not come across any of the other ones on the exam. Just a suggestion 🙂

@csin832. Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, cost is a big issue, and I do have the books and cards, so the practice questions are key. $60 is actually very reasonable. Thanks for the information.

csin832: Do you recommend using the CD? I feel like Gleim Online covers a lot of material. Are the CD's more helpful than Gleim Online. Gleim doesn't say that you need to use the CD's for the Gleim guarantee. I know it will help of coarse, but should I start paying more attention the CD's

    Thanks in Advance

I bought all 4 sections of the Becker FINAL REVIEW CDs last year. All four sections expired exactly 1 year later. (Becker has now extended that time to 18 months.) Unfortunately, I failed FAR the first time I took it. By the time I took FAR again, BEC and AUD expired. Therefore, I threw the expired Becker materials into the trash!

Expiration dates are my #1 pet peeve about Becker! I have enough to do for these exams without worrying about Becker's expiration dates. I want to own their software. I do not want to lease it for only for 18 months. Only Roger is more rigid. Roger expires after only 9 months!

There is no such thing as a free lunch with Becker materials after 18 months. After the expiration date you will have to come up with a lot of money, even if you sent in a performance report showing that you completed 100% of the lectures, and got 90% of the homework multiple choice questions correct. It is going to cost you $250 ($155 for new materials plus $95 shipping) per section ($1,000 total). If you did not send in a performance report, it will cost you a “discounted price” as a former student of $550 ($455 materials + $95 shipping charges). That is a total of $2,200 for all four sections! That is in addition to the almost $3,000 that you paid for all four sections the first time! (Note: Becker’s renewal prices have gone up.)

Employers may pay for Becker the first time, but I do not think that they will pay to renew Becker after the expiration date of 18 months.

You can buy Yaeger’s Home Study with Jeff’s discount for less money than you can renew Becker at the discounted price of $560! Additionally, Yaeger does not expire.

If your course is expiring, you have 2 options:

    1. contact them directly and work out an extension

    2. buy a new course

As always, adhere to the license you agreed to when you purchased the material. I cannot allow any other discussions on the topic…hope you understand.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92
