Prometric says past cut off to re-schedule? Am I screwed? - Page 2

I took Audit December 10th and failed with a 71.

Figured I’d book the first possible date, study, re-take while it was fresh.

Insert the Holidays, I mostly didn’t start studying until Friday (I know, my bad)

Last night I wrap up around 1am and figure I’ll see how I feel when I get up at 6 and bump it out a week if I need to.

Wake up at 6, decide to reschedule my exam (scheduled for 8am tomorrow- 26 hours away) and prometric says its past the cutoff and to call my board.

Well both the board and Prometric are closed today- since it’s a recognized holiday.

I feel like it’s kind of a trick, because I’m not within 24 hours.

Am I totally F’d at this point? If I need to re-take because I fail again because I’m not ready…..I have to wait until April now and take the crappy new exam.

I left a message for my local Prometric center since they’re open today for testing, I’ll try calling back once they open around 8 but I doubt I can do any thing.

Is my only option to cram my ass off today and pray?

@Amor I'm planning to call NASBA in the morning and confirm.

I don't want to just no-show in case it turns out I would still have to wait til next window. If they give me the option to do it then I might. I don't want to come in with a 74. I feel like I COULD pass right now. Another week I'd feel like I KNEW I would pass.

I called NASBA last month about being a no show and they told me that if you are a no show you can still take the exam the same window. They said they just have to wait for it to update in their system and then you can reschedule. Hopefully that can be an option for you if you decide not to take the exam.

    Good Luck!

    @Ruggercpa2b Thank you!

I'll call them in the morning and see how my pre-tests turn out at the end of today.

    Update:

I have to basically decide in the next hour to take it or not. I don't feel ready and on top of it- I'm not furious, and sleep deprived from the issue.

    Summary:

At 26 hours til exam I went to re-schedule.
Was told it was past the 24 hour cutoff.

This shouldn't even be something open to debate with them. Time is a set, monetary unit. I'm pretty upset.

I LITERALLY just paid $300 for this re-take NTS. It was good til July. And now my best option is to No-show today. It will be 5 days (not 48 hours for some reason) before I can re apply. Then after the re-apply….I can infact re-take it during this testing window.

Oh right- after I give them another $300 to re apply and all that.

So my option would be to go in feeling not confident today- maybe save $300…..or….no show and definitely spend $300….but be much better prepared.

I feel helpless, I think it's insane that there is no management authority or anyone who over ride things like this, I feel like there's no one to go to regarding policy issues. The CPA exam is meant to be hard, I get that part. But the amount of hoops and bullshit they do to have it end up costing people thousands of dollars is absolutely insane.

Did you call NASBA? They should be open in the next 3 minutes. Maybe you can plead your case and save $300 for reapplying.

@Ruggercpa2b oh ya. I called them at 5am pst. The second they opened. I actually called 3 times. Trying to get to any one with any type of authority or any thing. Basically it was a …”ya we agree it shouldn't say 24 hours when that's not really what it is but oh well” situation.

So I'm cranky. Going back to bed. And going to spend part of my work day figuring out how to submit a formal complaint for a change in policy.

24 hours shouldn't be something that's dependent on Eastern/PST…shouldn't be the business day.

As the policy stands it says less than 24 hours- direct quote.

How it's applied though is any time the day before you're exam- it should say if it's the prior business day. That's open to interpretation. 24 hours is a set unit….and shouldn't be.
