Have a CPA Exam-related question for me?

I’m trying something new in the forum – a stickied “Ask Jeff” post.

Drop it here and I will answer (or try to answer 🙂

    Jeff

I'm going to be the first. 🙂 Because of the coronavirus, I wasn't able to retake BEC, and most likely, I'll have to take 2 sections in a short period of time. Do you have any tips on how to study for REG and how to remember BEC while I'm studying for REG. Thank you Jeff.

    Jeff,

How do I write to my state board(maine) to request my Reg credit extension? My Reg expires on 5/31/2020 and i need to get it extended. Also when should i write to them? I actually wrote to them a month ago and received a strange response saying i should just contact Prometric. Does this mean they dont want to grant an extension? Thanks in advance

    Jeff,

How do I write to make it persuasive just like how auditors have to collect PERSUASIVE evidence to make it reliable and relevant? Yes, im studying auditing lol

Jeff, any way we can get some sort of PAUSE SESSION when we're doing questions (non-exam) so that we can possibly pause our session and then continue it at another time?

Sometimes I do 100 questions a day throughout the day and then when I leave work I want to finish them when I get home but there is no “pause session” available that allows me to open the session elsewhere.

This one is tough (studying for two sections at once). The best way I know to do it is to get exam-ready for BEC and then spend an hour each day staying in “exam mode” for BEC and hammering MCQ/studying notes, etc and then following your study plan for REG and working through the material. I like this method better than study for two sections at once chapter by chapter, if that makes sense.

Email the director and get clarification. Prometric doesn't issue credit extensions … neither does NASBA. It's a state issue.

I would email all 3 to get clarification on what the state of Maine is doing about CPA Exam extensions…pick one and CC the other two:

    breanna.e.spencer@maine.gov
    mary.a.lord@maine.gov
    catherine.m.carroll@maine.gov

You won't be able to make a persuasive argument…they either will extend for everyone – or they won't extend for everyone.

Good question – and one that I've been asked about a few times. I think there may be a miscommunication on our part. If you start a 100 question session and get to question 35 and need to leave the office, for example, you can hit submit and it will record your score and the unanswered questions won't impact your Trending Score. So, not having a “pause” button isn't really a detriment and it removes the risk of your session getting “hung up” and your DB getting messed up.

    Jeff,

My exam will be in June 7, 2020 in Bahrain and I am in Saudi Arabia. Saudi government is not allowed to travel so far due to corona virus. I am not sure to do now. Do i need to postpone the exam or wait until one week before the exam date.

    your feedback is appreciated.

Good question – I would assume that your exam will still be held and study like this is the case. A lot can happen in a month.

Hey Jeff! Do you know anything about the score release timeline for the continuous testing starting July 1, 2020?

When I asked the AICPA about it a few weeks ago (pre-COVID)…nothing had been determined yet…or at least ready to be public.
