Worst Question Ever: "How was studying today?" - Page 2

Every time I tell my boyfriend that I studied, he asks me this question: “So how was it? How was studying?” How am I supposed to answer that??? I guess I usually go with “good” or “fine,” but it’s not a legitimate answer. I did the studying. There are no adjectives to describe it, because it’s something that HAS to be done, not something I choose to do (okay, well, I did choose to take/pass the CPA exam, blah, blah, blah). But you know what I mean? I’m past the point of choice. Which means that it’s not something that goes well or goes poorly, it just goes. Especially because there is no immediate end result. The test is something that can go well or poorly. But not studying.

    Anyone else have this issue?

    B - 80
    A - 80
    R - 71, 59, 74, 80 FINALLY!
    F - 77

Used Kaplan for FAR, BEC, AUD, and the first 2 REG attempts. I started using NINJA about 2 weeks before my 3rd REG attempt. I believe it's why I was so close to passing and why I passed the 4th time. USE IT FROM THE BEGINNING.

“Did you pass”, “You'll do just fine”, “You will pass next time”, “When are you taking it”, “Are you ready”, “How was it” – Worst questions/statements of all time. I avoid seeing my dentist. I am 4 months overdue but whatevs because last time I saw him, he asked me “How did you do” and I said, I don't know, just took it yesterday. His response was “Well you should know if you pass or not” Heck would I know.

I love that question the best. “You took a test today. Do you think you passed?” Nope I think I failed, luckily I have only failed so I have been right lol.

@Skynet Haha, thanks, I think. No, he is not going to be an ex for asking. I think he's trying to be nice and involved and supportive. But he's just not in the same situation and doesn't know what to say.

I do like how this thread is going. Accountants are generally anti-social. I'm okay with that, like CaseyTX said, “If that keeps people from engaging in mindless chit-chat with me, I'm not losing any sleep over it.”

Accountants are very black-and-white sort of people. I'm studying because I have to. End of discussion. We're not really the “But how do you feel about that?” sort. Which is why we weren't psychology majors.

How about when people ask, “when do you find out?” UGH – leave me alone!!!

I took off work 3 days to study, tested on a saturday and then Monday morning, “how did you do? when will you find out?”

Can i have 5 minutes, please?! Thanks!

    A - 75
    B - 78 God is good.
    F - 77 Answered prayers.
    R - 84! Done!!

Paperwork sent - waiting for license!!
Still on a cloud and in shock. Through God, all things will happen.

This thread is great! I agree with all of this. When I am done studying all day, the last thing I want to do is discuss the studying. Then, if a family member calls during the studying, I usually get, “ugh! you're studying again. oh, you poor thing!” It's my choice! I don't need anyone feeling sorry for me.

    BEC - 70, 70, 75
    REG - 66
    FAR - soon
    AUD - 66, 58

I also love when people ask, “how'd you do”? I honestly feel like it's a trap. If I say I did good and I actually did bad, I make myself look bad so then I become afraid to answer the question. I always respond, “I'll tell you on (insert score release date)”.

And I'm actually feeling really relieved reading this thread thanks to everyone who also hates small talk. If I have something on my mind, I'll say it. If I have an opinion, I say it. But I have no interest in talking about the weather every single day or what my dang lunch is today (I eat the same garbage every single day and my co-worker insist on discussing my lunch). “What's that you got today”… SAME THING AS YESTERDAY, BUG OFF.

Small talk is a problem in my eyes. It makes people feel obligated to talk. I have no problem sitting in silence next to people. But you can tell people start to squirm and feel the need to ask you something or tell you some useless information because they have no idea how to enjoy the peace and quiet.

    Ok rant over. >.>

    For now, lol.

    BEC - 80
    AUD - 64, 75 - credit lost, 90!!
    REG - 73, 74, 83
    FAR - 61, 72, 85

Feels good finishing on my best note. Time to watch the mailbox.

Do we really have to rate it? Especially when we have to explain the entire exam process to get them to agree that this is a really important test so please let me study, read, stare at the wall or what ever it looks like I am doing in the name of passing the cpa exam.

    It begins with a 75

I love this guys. I actually feel like I belong. I had someone asked me…”Are we not friends anymore?”. I mean, really? I'm too busy with work and studying to even give you my itinerary schedule of every second of my days. I also got…I don't think I passed. “What?! You didn't pass and you studied forever!” Ok, thanks for pointing that out. I also got. “Get a life.” “Your life is boring”. This is MY LIFE, so, why don't YOU get a life! LOL Thanks for letting me vent.

Here's to everyone passing their exams!

    REG - 05/14/2015 - "W"?
    AUD - 05/27/2015

I'll often get “so how many tests left?” Or, if I haven't seen someone for a few weeks I'll get “how'd that test go? You all done now?”

Also, the best way to stop chit chat is to answer the study question with an example question. If they're not familiar with CPA shit they usually lose interest and regret asking.

    FAR:  68, 75 (Lost Credit), 69 because f*uck me, right? 77

    REG:  71, 79

    BEC:  73, 75

    AUD: 69, 70, 72, 74, 74, 69, 75

    FAR: 66, 75
    AUD: 67, 69, 70, 74, 74
    REG: 71, 79
    BEC: 73

@DeterminedCPA and @tncincy People DO NOT understand the CPA, unless they are taking it or have taken it recently. You have to wait FOREVER to learn your score and having other people ask about it just makes you A) annoyed or B) more anxious (if that's even possible). I think the best question to ask a CPA candidate is “Would you like me to get you some chocolate?” Anything else is pretty much a disaster waiting to happen.

@snixpie As I said, other people don't get it. I feel like I'm in Lost when I say that. We're the “safe/normal” ones and “the others” are out to get us. Also, yes, it's our choice – so if you're not going to offer support, just shut up. Or offer chocolate, as stated previously.

@Pandarama I don't tell anyone (except very close friends and family that I have already explained the CPA to) how I think I did. Because I usually end up getting the opposite of what I thought. And they don't get it.

@GSU-CPA and @tonybrunoar I have told him some things, and that has at least fended off the “What did you study today?” question.

@ImANervousWreck I haven't seen one of my best friends in, I think, a year. I just don't have time to drive an hour and a half roundtrip (after work – not an option, weekends? precious weekends? are you kidding me?) and not be studying. Maybe for my last REG I'll get NINJA Audio, so then I can at least listen in the car.

@Last Chance CPA – Well, I've spent more time with Denise Probert and the audio review people than any of my family or friends. DOES THAT ANSWER THE QUESTION? Kidding, kidding…
