New "Wiley CPAexcel" a HUGE disappointment - Page 2

So, just a vent, but the new CPAexcel options are dreadful. You basically can buy the very expensive Video Gold Medal course or you can get the Wiley books and Testbank.

This is just awful for me–I was hoping to have the bite-sized online lesson format (without video!) for an affordable price (300/section). Also, the old CPAexcel books were much better (for me) than the dry Wiley material.

Just really disappointed they made this change, as I had finally settled on their material, and now going to have to move on to a competitor.

There is a market for a streamlined, online course that is not JUST A TEST BANK and is also not VIDEO courses….something that is devoted to the self-studiers that want more guidance/features than a test bank provides but don’t need video lecturse.

    UGH

I see EXACTLY what you are talking about. And I also see that they only grant one year access when CPAExcel was unlimited. I've got the old self-study version. I sure hope they don't cut me off as I may lose a credit. Dang, for the money CPAExcel was the best thing out there. Too bad they sold out.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel

    @Kimboroni:

AUD Study Guide––Module 41: Information Technology (Supplement)

    Page 653:

“Before beginning the reading you should review the key terms at the end of the module.”

    Page 684:

    “KEY TERMS

Because the content of this module is largely terminology, a set of key terms is not provided.”

And this is from the 2014 edition!

I wish they provided an email to which I could send all my Grammar Nazi complaints. I guess that's not the best use of my time, though…

    AUD: 88
    BEC: 79
    REG: 81
    FAR: 72 » 74 » 88

Study method: 100% watching videos, including solving problems covered therein; no books, paper, or pencils

The “Wiley CPAexcel” books are just the old Wiley books.

When CPAexcel was on its own, it had its own series of books–just plain blue books, used for the course. I liked them better than the Wiley books.

    Okay, enough venting.

Gonna check out Gleim and Fast Forward Academy and see what I decide. It's March 1st, so study time begins.

    @ Nuffsaid

My understanding is this is the Wiley course with Wiley style books…

and this is the cpaexcel course…..

When I paid for cpaexcel before the merger it was 100% online with no physical books.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

    Study Monk,

There were always physical books for CPAexcel. You could buy the online course (which came with digital edition only) or for 30 bucks extra get a copy of the physical book.

The material is different than Wiley's, and with a different (more comfortable) layout.

This is what the books look like: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CPAexcel-2012-exam-review-/281274735944?pt=US_Texbook_Education&hash=item417d47dd48

“The option to get the SELF STUDY (without the video) is gone” <– this is true

But other than above and the covers getting a unified cover design, almost everything is the same:

CPAexcel course comes with the “blue” books (now have a white cover) but content the same

    – CPAexcel books are ebook or print — your choice at checkout (just like before)

    – CPAexcel still “until you pass” so unlimited (Wiley Test Bank was always by 4 month or 1 year terms)

    – Wiley books are the same as they used to be (we'll work on those typos!)

    – Wiley books pair with Test Bank in “Self-Study Pack”

It's in our interest to give market the options that are most desirable — while it would be too cluttered and confusing to offer every combination we certainly want to provide the most desired packages of study material.

Thanks for the clarification. The CPAexcel books are still the best books out there.
