LindseyMemberFailed my 3rd test in a row…..And they were the first 3 tests I took. 2 BEC and 1 Audit. Just found out I failed Audit. I’m not sure if I’ll continue. I don’t know what to do differently. so frustrating. I knew I might have trouble, but this is insane. I’m not sure if I can continue to waste time and money. Spent the first year of my marriage studying…..For nothing. Sorry to sound like a Debbie Downer, but that’s me right now. Congrats to all the passing scores today!!
BEC - 67 | 69 | 2014?
AUD - 11/27/13 - FAIL
REG - 2014
FAR - 2014

nbad311MemberA tip I would add would be, if you find a study place you like (or at least “dont hate”) stick with that place and make it part of routine. Stick with it long enough so that it feels semi normal to retreat to this place every night for 2 hours/on weekends. Maybe its at home locked away in the basement. Maybe its not at home because thats too distracting. Mine was starbux as money-wasting as that place is. It was a store that was a quiet one with friendly baristas. It felt like a second job I had to go work at every evening but got to do so in sweatpants/alone. Studying 20+ hours a week (for multiple weeks in a row) sucks but is necessary; therefore, at least be comfortable and make it tolerable!
REG - 65, 70, 80!
BEC - 35, 62, 79!
AUD - 73, 75!
FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.December 19, 2013 at 2:08 am #496165

AnonymousInactiveYou can make it pleasurable. You can make it a soul searching experience should have the love around you. Lots of love from family and understanding has helped me pass one section so far. Without family I would be in the dumps. Mucho respect to all the people who do it with no support (especially mental) from the famels and friendles.

vkhCPAMemberI just received my AUD score and I scored the same as you on your 1st attempt. I did way worse than I thought I did and I'm feeling totally demoralized right now 🙁
Would you mind sharing what you did differently while studying for your AUD retake?
I see a huge jump in your score!
Also, how long did you study for your 2nd attempt before you decided to study again?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks 🙂
AUD - 12/03/13
REG - 02/28/14
FAR - TBD

wishiwasaCPAMemberDon't give up. I know people who have taken the exams an aggregate of 20 times and finally passed (not an exaggeration). I failed audit once, reg twice and far once. These exams are hell but I live by the general philosophy with these things that if I think I have studied enough, at any given point, I probably need to study more. I now take notes on every MC question and it is grueling, evil, and I hate it with all of my heart but I finally started passing them once I adopted that strategy. I'm finding that writing things down and detailing every question works for me, I learn a little slower than most people so it takes me longer to grasp each concept. Don't look at these exams as something you should be passing, they are something you should be failing since the odds are against you so don't take any studying lightly. I use Becker, and I don't even look at the book anymore, I just take notes on the lecture and MC which is working. The only reason I got the books is so I can take them to a a field, put tannerite under them, and blow them sky high once I finish. I'm not joking either.
AUD – 65, 79
BEC – 78 (expires 2/18/2014)
REG – 65, 56, 75
FAR – 64, 2/15/2014

vkhCPAMemberThanks for the motivation, wishiwasaCPA!
I think I'm going to take your advice and take my own notes on Becker lectures. I know the highlighting and circling helps a lot of people but I felt like I wasted a lot of time in doing that.
So maybe I'll trying your suggested method for a lecture or two and see how I'm doing on the MCQs for those sections.
How long did you spend studying for your retake?

AnonymousInactiveLindsey and vkaCPA: I am one of those 20+ timers and in reality..it's actually closer to 30 than 20! Do not let this fail define you! Dust yourself off and re-apply for another go around with AUDIT. The NINJA notes and flashcard made a big difference for me. You may think a score in the upper 40s is “bad” but it is a foundation that you can build on. Go back to the first module in the book and start over. MCQs until you want to give up. Write fact nuggets from the MCQs and read your notes every night. I even fell asleep with Jeff's voice and the NINJA audio every night…and just like my husband…I would wake up in the middle of the night and he would STILL be talking to me!! =) . On test day, I actually heard his voice in my head with the correct answer a few times. I also used Yaeger home study, Wiley TB and Gleim TB.
YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

vkhCPAMemberThanks for the motivation, BaxterCPA!
I have a long commute to/from work so from now on, I'll turn off the music and turn on the Ninja! It might get tiring but I need to whatever I can in order to pass!!

wishiwasaCPAMemberFor my retakes, I started from scratch. I figured I'd be “risk averse” (ha) and just go from the beginning. What I found was that a lot of what I was re-studying I didn't remember studying in the first place which makes me think I didn't really understand it at all. One other thing I started to do is focusing in more on the simulations. The times I failed, I skimmed and clicked through them when I was studying and kind of just got a grasp on the concept of each simulation. I thought that if I focused my attention on the MC practice, the simulations would just come to me. I think that logic was just an excuse to not spend time studying the simulations since they are so mind numbing.
Pretty much if you're retaking, just treat it like you've never taken it before. I think that will make you more likely to master the concepts.
