Failed my 3rd test in a row…..And they were the first 3 tests I took. 2 BEC and 1 Audit. Just found out I failed Audit. I’m not sure if I’ll continue. I don’t know what to do differently. so frustrating. I knew I might have trouble, but this is insane. I’m not sure if I can continue to waste time and money. Spent the first year of my marriage studying…..For nothing. Sorry to sound like a Debbie Downer, but that’s me right now. Congrats to all the passing scores today!!

    BEC - 67 | 69 | 2014?
    AUD - 11/27/13 - FAIL
    REG - 2014
    FAR - 2014

@Lindsey Do not give up. I started last October, took all four by February. Wasn't working. Failed all 4 in a row. Passed AUD in April (not working), REG in July (working), and waiting on BEC score. Went up 14 pts on AUD, and 19 points on REG.

Also, I've had to personally pay for every cent of everything to do with this exam, so it feels even WORSE when you're just throwing ~$200 away each time it seems like.

    AUD: 84
    REG: 84
    BEC: 79
    FAR: 83

Ill sound like a broken record but don't give up. I just failed my second out of two attempts (far and aud), but the light at the end of the tunnel and the support system you have encouraging you (friends family husband another 71) will definitely help you get back on the horse to defeat and pass the exam. Do a little each day and make small victories that I'm sure will turn into a large success.

I bookmarked MCLKT's story to my browser and read it everytime i'm feeling down. Here is that amazing story: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/aud-how-i-earned-24-additional-points

P.S. I failed AUD twice and FAR once before passing my first AUD.

Lindsey, don't give up!!!!! Let me tell you a little story. I gave up many, many, many years ago. I dropped out of college because I just couldn't see myself passing the exam. I stayed in the accounting world from the age of 19 to my ripe old age right now of 45. I've been doing taxes for all those years under CPA's. A year ago I got tired of seeing my work go out the door with their signature on it, and even worse, the fees going into their pocket. I finally got up the courage to sit for the exam and was approved by the board, going in under the 15 year experience rule. I work full time, I have a husband, a son, two dogs, and a mortgage. I've passed three sections, and I'm so angry at myself that I gave up all those years ago. Don't give up!!!! You can do this!

    AUD 87

    BEC 82

    REG 80

    FAR ?????

Hang in there, dont give up yet. I have failed REG 1x, BEC 2x. Remember its always easy to quit.

But come to think of it, if you quit, would you have the courage or moral sensitivity to encourage your kid or a friend who is going through hard times like this ?

Its always hard to encourage or mentor others when you know you couldnt finish up with what you started.

On the other hand, you also have to question your motivation for taking this route. If your motivation is strong enough then quiting is not an option at all.

    REG -63│ 84!!
    BEC- 59│70│ 71 │78!
    AUD- 75!
    FAR- 87!

@Lindsey Sorry, but you are not allowed to quit. Why? Because you can do this!!!! You've found 3 ways to study that are not effective. I found many ineffective ways to study as you can see in my signature! 😉 You haven't wasted the past year at all. You are chasing a lofty goal that isn't for the weak of heart. The CPA exam is a monster but clearly you've got what takes. Your scores in your signature aren't in the 30's and you are moving in the right direction!!! Focus all of your attention on to BEC until you pass it. Switching between sections isn't the best way to go IMHO. BEC is so tricky because of mash up of completely unrelated topics. What materials are you using? How are you studying? Tell us what you are doing. We are here to help you and support you!!!!

It's hard when you are balancing work, a new marriage, family, and this exam. My husband often complains that he feels like he is last in the batting order when it comes to my priorities, but I have no issues telling him that a sacrifice now will pay a lifetime of dividends. I don't make apologies to him or to anyone else for how I make a living in public accounting. Nothing worth having comes easy or is free. This exam is a short term hell but it doesn't last forever. Tell your husband that you are making a sacrifice now to better your family for years to come. Something I've picked up from other on A71 is the importance of making a study schedule that is public and available for everyone in your household to see. When you are scheduled to study, you study your tail off and no screwing around! When you aren't on the study clock at home, you are 100% focused on your husband and having quality time with family. This shows your spouse that you are committed to a quality relationship and are committed to passing as soon as possible. Believe me, nothing sucks worse than screaming it out with your spouse over dinner about this exam and then trying to focus on diluted earnings per share. The public and enforced study schedule has reduced CPA exam screaming matches at my house by 300%. Give it a try! 🙂

Take the weekend off. Get drunk, get your nails done, buy crap you don't really need, go out for a really expensive dinner and order everything on the menu, scream, cry, (all things that worked for my on my FAR 74 BTW) but seriously just do whatever makes you feel good again!!!! When you are in a rational mindset and ready to work again, make a battle plan and stick to it.

    You can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂

There is no absolute need to pass the CPA exam. It is more important to find something you enjoy doing.

Not everyone is “cut out” for accounting, business, auditing, tax, etc.

There are plenty of other more rewarding and fulfilling professions.

And even if you do stick with business and accounting, you can still be successful without the CPA license. I've been a successful businessman for 20 years, before even taking an accounting course.

I read that only 20% of accountants work in public accounting and thus need the CPA license.

    BA Mathematics, UC Berkeley
Certificates in CPA and EA preparation, College of San Mateo
    CMA I 420, II 470
    FAR 91, AUD Feb 2015 (Gleim self-study)

Just wanted to add to the encouragement! I have sat 20 times so far, going for 21 next window and hoping it's my last. I think I sat 8 or 9 times before I passed a section. Personally I was half assing it. Then I passed 2 sections got on my high horse got a new job and what do you know lost both passed sections since I failed the next two and gave up! What a mistake fast forward about a year and I knew I needed to finish what I started I buckled down failed one section then passed three in a row! Now I'm one exam away from finishing this thing! REG is my little devil but I have two more shots and I'm going to take this guy down!!!

Don't give up like others have said take the weekend have a drink be mad and hit the books hard next week! We are all here to support you!

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!
