Give up on BEC, FAR

I need your opinion on my situation. I found out this morning that I didn’t pass BEC for the third time. And just recently found out that I didn’t pass FAR for the first time. I’ve passed AUD (2 attempts) and REG (four attempts) and will be losing my AUD credit in June. I’ve been trying since 2013. I really don’t have the money right now to pay for these fees…we all know how much they add up. I just feel so defeated. I keep trying and I study and it’s like nothing works to get BEC done!!!! I’m having serious doubts about becoming a CPA because I can’t pass. Ugh.

So, this is where I need your help. Should I give up?? Or should I give it my all for the next few months, take BEC & FAR in the 2nd quarter testing window before my AUD credit expires and see what happens?? I just feel so defeated and feel close to giving up.

I'm sorry you feel defeated, and I hope you don't give up. You at least need to try until your audit credit expires. FAR and BEC are two exams a lot of people struggle with. I think you need to study for both like it is your first time, but feel grateful that a lot of the info is probably in there because you have taken them before! You are soo close. Don't give up now.

Stay positive and we can do this! I read so many posts here and there for motivation! I just took my first part BEC and found out that I passed. I was so relieved bcoz finance and econ are definitely my weakest subjects. I spent two months going over BEC stuffs I think i spent about 400 h in total and over 3000 mcqs (becker + ninja mcq) ~ I must admit bec has the highest passing rate but it is very subjective in my opinion! I read becker book once and kept doing mcq till I basically was about to faint but the key was to understand why I was getting something wrong and writing them down! if you find yourself memorizing the answer, step back and think why you know that is the answer before moving on to the next mc.

don't give up ! good luck!

BEC is cheaper to take than FAR. I would start studying for BEC and when you get enough money apply for the NTS. Borrow it if you have to or put it on your credit card! Don't let the fees stop you from taking your exam. Also, don't schedule your exam until you feel 100% prepared. No, you won't know everything 100% but you should feel confident that you understand the concepts. Also, if you are having trouble with questions reach out to the study groups located at the top of the forum. Type your questions and ask for help that's why we are all here. I just passed BEC and I found what helped me was memorizing the formulas. So try to learn them and understand how they are used. Goodluck!

Definitely give it one last push and study your ass off. If you fail these two last ones and lose the ones you pass i would say its time to throw in the towel lol.

    REG-77
BEC -Waiting on score May 5th
    AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

I know it's hard, but definitely find a way to keep trying.

You've already proven that you can pass two of them. That's HUGE!!

Use that as your motivation and encouragement to have faith and know that you can do this. It just requires more time and a few tweaks to your strategy.

What strategy did you use for the ones you passed? Are you doing anything different for FAR and BEC?

Are you trying to go too fast?

Can you find someone who has already passed the exams to tutor you or work with you?

Be very detailed when you're trying to understand what you know and don't know about each topic.

Use the heck out of this forum. The people here are amazingly helpful!!

Can you add additional study time to your week?

Can you put these charges on your credit card and get by for a while, financially? You might need a new test bank if you're getting familiar with the practice questions.

I know it's so hard, but stay focused. Regroup your energy and decide that you will get through this.

Even if you lose credit for AUD, I want you to keep going so you don't lose REG too!

Here's a video that someone posted in another discussion just a few days ago for motivation….

    I like it a lot –

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q8RpEFa1No

And, don't say, “I can't pass” – You ARE passing. You passed 2. You can pass the others.

Figure out what's giving you trouble with the others and spend a lot of time on that.

For BEC, I recommend understanding variance analysis very well. I got several questions on that one topic.

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15
    Praise Jesus! I'm done!!

Alicia Marie – NEVER give up! You have passed two parts which it is clearly a direct statement telling you that you can do this. We fall and we get back up even stronger. I know the fees are outrageous but do whatever you need to do to continue. Stay focused and positive.

    Alicia,

What method of review are you using? This can make a huge difference. Perhaps your method is not compatable with your actual style of learing.

I have been using CPAExcel with NINJA MCQ for parts and just purchased the Ninja REG book to go with CPAExcel. This works for me.

Others really like Roders or Becker. The questions is, what will work for you.

Find a method of studying that will allow you to cram the information in and retain it. Some people swear by flashcards, others by notes.

The Ninja note method is a great idea but you need to make sure that you understand the notes before you just re-write them over and over.

Don't give up, just find what works!

I feel your pain. I just found out I failed BEC for the second time. 74 then 73 respectively. I am not sure where I went wrong and am not feeling the greatest about myself right about now. I studied over 20 hours a week for 2 months straight using Becker. I am trying to figure out if I should supplement my material and questions. I am really a visual learner but I do not know what material is best for someone like me. Becker worked for me on all of the other exams so I thought I found the right material. Any advise would be great if there are any fellow visual learners out there! I am really ready to get this done in Q2!

I am having the same problem too. I've been at this since 2013 and I've only passed FAR. The secret to success in my opinion is to just over study. Do so many questions you want to puke. I'm gonna take BEC in mid may and I think I will get through 5 to 6 thousand questions between gleim and ninja. That is around 80 questions a day average.

    REG - NINJA in Training
    AUD - 71, 73

The thing i did differently with BEC – got Ninja Audio and Ninja MCQs as supplement to my main review course.

The audio was great b/c I would listen to it everyday when I was in my car.

    AUD--52,68,83, expired. Retake = 74 RETAKE - 7.24.26
    FAR--73,70,68,75

    dgilbreath –

    I'm a visual learner too.

For some topics, I type notes into a Word doc and print it out.

You can create tables and charts in Word, so it's in a visual format that helps you remember.

For BEC, I created a page in Excel for the variance analysis. I strongly suggest learning this topic very well for BEC.

If I could attach my excel document here on Variances, I would post it for your use, but it looks like there is no way to attach it.

Regarding supplementing your material, I have watched several Roger CPA videos online. They were helpful in how he explains things vs. Becker.

You may consider purchasing his program?

OR, just search Youtube for topics that you don't understand. There are some great videos on Youtube that really helped me.

Especially for FAR, the YouTube channel – oruaccounting – has several great lectures. This instructor explains things very well.

And, I previously posted the info below in a different conversation on this forum regarding videos for BEC –

“I watched a good and short video on fixed overhead variance on youtube the day before my exam. It helped to clarify a few points. The same youtube channel also has videos on variable overhead. I did not watch those because I ran out of time.

    I'm posting both here –

Fixed Overhead video (less than 5 minutes) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM0IroanGYg

Variable Overhead videos (three videos – 5 min. each) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezmGaRfAEUI&list=PL42DBA1A72E06FB17

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15

Hi everyone – thank you so much for all your motivating words! I really needed to read all these positive words because of how upset I've been all morning. I know this is quite the journey and we can all do this. Getting positive vibes from you all really helps. And thank you so much to those that have attached motivational YouTube videos and YouTube videos that go over some tougher topics.

I have Becker so I watch all the lectures, do the MCQs over and over again, re-write the NINJA notes and listen to the NINJA audio. I'm thinking that I may want to supplement the NINJA MCQ for BEC. I'm thinking that I will take BEC first (sometime in early April) and then tackle FAR at the end of May. I'm hoping this will leave enough time for me to adequately study for both. I'm thinking that I'll re-watch all the lectures, re-read and take additional notes, do non-stop MCQ, and re-write the NINJA notes for both exams. I hope this works!
