First Time Fail

Well, this is my first score release date and of the three exams I took during Q2, I failed FAR and passed Audit (Barely, but a pass is a pass). I got a 63 on FAR. I studied full time from January until April. I am feeling pretty deflated right now. I am slated to take REG (currently listening to ninja audio while I type this) on July 11th. I fly out to Vegas the day after for my brothers bachelor party and then plan to come home on the 15th and go full speed into FAR and would like to take it August 15th. Does anyone who has retake experience with FAR believe that full time studying for a month is sufficient for a retake? Plus I know there were exam changes May 31st, are they drastic? Worth ordering a replacement book? Honestly, any advice would be helpful. Pretty hurt and annoyed that I have to deal with the monster again, but this is what we signed up for right? No Pressure No Diamonds.

I took FAR in February and failed. I didn’t start studying again for it until about 4 weeks before my May 4th exam date. I knew what areas I needed to work on and focused on those parts. Just got my score and got a 78! One month is sufficient for a retake.

I am waiting on my FAR score…I'm in CA and don't have anything as of yet. I am taking REG in August (a retake) and if I failed FAR I'm moving REG up two weeks and I'll do FAR again very end of window…I think a month would work. But since I'm in CA and we get screwed with later score release I don't know if my retake took! ARGH! Ha Ha but I am going to VEGAS myself for the 4th 🙂 regardless, I'm either going to be celebrating or consoling myself!

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 75

I am right there with you. I got my FAR score back and failed with a 74. It was the first exam I've taken. Waiting on BEC on Friday. I guess at least my clock hasn't started yet haha. I also take REG on July 11th and leave to go out of town July 13-23rd. I don't start work until late September, so after my trip I will full speed into FAR again too. I've been studying full time for REG and getting through two chapters of Becker per week, so for FAR I'll probably do the same thing. There are 10 chapters for FAR, so it will take me 5 weeks (maybe 4 if I'm diligent) and then I'll leave 1-2 weeks for review. One month might be cutting it close but if you're really consistent and get your work done I think it's doable. I've heard Jeff say 6-8 weeks is the max amount of time you should be studying for any of the exams so 4 weeks is not far off.

Got my scores and found I passed AUD and failed FAR (75 and a 70). This was my 3rd AUD and 1st FAR test so I get the frustration with failing and thank goodness I don't have to take AUD a 4th time! My personal opinion is not to buy new material. When I think about getting different material I know I'm just trying to find the “quick fix” or the “magical solution” to make me pass. The real issues is I just don't study hard enough or smart enough.

It sounds like you already can study hard. I'd suggest taking as much time as needed to feel confident since the scores aren't released until the end of the quarter anyway. I'd also suggest figuring out which areas you're weaker in and focusing on those. I know I need to look more at governmental reporting and some other areas I felt weak on going in to the test.

You'll get there eventually! You are smart and capable and you passed AUD!! FAR & BEC & REG don't stand a chance!

@TaxShark, You are not alone. I studied from late March until June 8 and made a 55. Congrats on passing AUD. My exam was horrible in the fact my TBS' were HEAVILY document reviews. I guess I will get the report on what I was weakest with and get back on the horse.

    AUD - 47
    BEC - 60
    FAR - 55
    REG - 68

Hey – I made a 63 on FAR, as well! Bummer, but I’m going to think of it as a test run. Since the target release date for Q3 scores is September 19, I plan on taking FAR again the first week in September. The 5 week wait I had for scores was awful, so I’m in no rush to take the exam sooner.

I think one month of additional studying is sufficient if you can study full-time. But if you’re not in a hurry, maybe take it slow so you can be more thorough and feel even more confident.

Mannnnn I just took FAR for my 3rd time and got an 80. Definitely said I was going to quit 100 times over again but now it is over. KEEP GOING FORWARD.

    Signatures are overrated.
