What school would you recommend for online?

I am thinking of just taking the GMAT instead of going to SNHU for my MAcc – They don’t require a GMAT and pretty much take anyone. Their cost if $627 a credit hour. I don’t have the foundation accounting classes so in addition I would need to take those as well within the MAcc.

What online schools do you recommend? Do you think I should take my $627 per credit hour elsewhere and just buck down and take the GMAT?

    Thanks!

I went to SNHU for the masters. As of October 2015, it was sufficient to qualify me to sit for the exam in MA. What incremental value does the GMAT provide? More schools require it, but I'm not sure that online programs vary so wildly in quality that a school that requires a GMAT would be sufficiently better to justify the cost/effort/time of taking the GMAT. At the end of the day, it still comes down to you and the material and your willingness to work through it, right?

Granted, work reimbursed for half the tuition, and I'm not familiar with how it stacks up, price-wise, against other programs.

I personally would take the GMAT and try to find a school within your geographical area that offers an online masters degree. The GMAT is not really that hard. I took it with two weeks of studying while I had the flu and got a score high enough to get into the graduate school of my choosing. It's NOTHING compared to the CPA exam, I can promise you that! Plus I think attending a school that requires the GMAT puts you in a class with others who are serious about the degree and you know they are qualified enough to be there. Schools that don't require testing beforehand and let just about anyone in often have the lazy individuals who are doing it just because they can.

I also suggest finding a local school that offers an online degree for the simple fact that I think a degree from a ‘real' school is more respectable. I'm not downgrading online-only schools in any way and I'm sure they have their advantages, but I personally think it would be better to graduate from a more local school that potential employers know and are somewhat familiar with. I earned my MBA from the same university I got my Bachelor's degree and it was $530-ish per credit hour. Total it costs around $17,000.

I attended Liberty University, entirely online, for my Masters. I did not need to take the GMAT, I think because my undergrad GPA was above a certain threshold. I did have my Bachelors in accounting already, so I'm not sure what extra you might need. I found the format to be perfect as I was working full time and the cost affordable. It is a Christian school, and that will be incorporated into your classes to a certain degree, but other than Ethics, it's pretty limited, so if that doesn't bother you, I'd recommend the program.

If you already have a degree and just need the coursework to sit or for licensing, then I would take the courses through LSU ODL or UCLA Extension. You will pay around $700 per class and most states accept their courses for licensing. Personally, I took all of my accounting courses through them and haven't had any problems. If you want an actual degree, then I would not do it online. A big part of the cost of a degree is being able to network through the school and you won't get that as easily through an online degree.

I have recently been seeing sidebar adverts for Syracuse online.
No GMAT required if you meet certain criteria, I think one is 5 years experience in your field.

MBA personally doesn't interest me much since my area of practice is tax. I would be more interested in a Masters of Taxation if I had to go back to school.

Be sure to confirm with your state CPA board whether the program is accepted or not.
