My favorite was my mom’s text message this morning–“Sorry. I was hoping it did not post when i didn’t hear from you. I still love you”.

To which I responded– “good to know your love isn’t contingent on me passing.”

What other things have people said to you all?

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Mercy. I feel the same way, but we all know that “outsiders” just can't understand how difficult it is to get a passing score. Good luck on FAR and REG.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

@katy, glad to hear I'm not the only one…also, I'm sure I'm not alone in the fact that when I walked out of an exam, I NEVER felt good about it

dad pushes bedroom door open and shouts, “you doctor yet?!”

son replies, “no dad, I'm only 12”

“talk to me when you become doctor!” shouts back the dad as he slams the door back shut.

lol…funny clip from Family Guy (and of course the characters were Asian)

When I walked out of FAR i was like, “This f-ing test, I spent the last few days reviewing things that were not even on the test *&^^%%&” and everybody was your are going to pass blah blah blah

Yesterday, when I told my husband that I didnt pass by one point he was like call somebody for a review, and guess what my in-lays said the same thing. Oh yes, I am going to call NASBA, and I will say ‘Hi, this is me, please review my score, take one point from somebody else's score and add it to mine…..” lol

And then my sister, “It will be next time” and I was like yes after many more hours at the library.

Ugghhh, you can tell I am still sensitive 😉

    Done 😉

Note to self: Next time someone tells me they failed the CPA exam, instead of trying to be nice, I will give then a fully hoenst answer: I do not care. Then possibly ask them what they think of major league baseballs new labor agreement. Or go buy a ham sandwhich.

@ AreYouDoctor video…It's funny and seems stereotype, BUT it's true. I am Asian, and I can relate to that, REALLY. My parents, especially my mom has pushed me to study for CPA for a decade. She always told me so and so's son become a CPA right after school in his 20s and now has a 6-figure jobs, and then she would add “he/she is so smart.” She was so happy that I finally decided to study for CPA. Sometimes when I told her that I had trouble understanding some concepts, she would just said “Well, you just need to be more focus.” And trust me, she has planned ahead even after my CPA, she already said something “well, you know, you should use this studying habit to continue to finish up your master…” LOL. She would be heart broken if I told she that the reason I studied my CPA is to give up my Master degree.

I haven't failed yet (knock on wood), but I hate when people think it's not a tough thing to do.

I had a friend say “oh, I had a class in college and the prof said he put CPA exam questions on there and it didn't seem that hard” really? Try 90 MCQs and 7 SIMS instead of maybe 3 easy CPA questions on your test and get back to me.

Thankfully I haven't failed a section (and hopefully won't fail REG) but one of my favorite comments was from a non-CPA coworker who asked me “What are you going to do when you fail?” before one of my exams.

Really, WHEN I fail? As if it were guaranteed? He's not my favorite person in the office so you can imagine my delight when he failed level 1 of the CFP. 🙂

Another annoying one when I announce my passing score is “I KNEW you'd pass. I don't understand why you were so anxious”. It really takes the fun out of passing if no one recognizes what a HUGE deal it is to have passed.

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

First time I took FAR I went to my parents cabin and studied for 3 days ahead of time. Next thing I know all the neighbors, freinds of neighbors are asking me how I did on the exam. After a while I had the standard line down about the time to get the score. When I found out I failed I told my dad that if he was going to “brag” about me being there for 3 days studying he had better take the good with the bad and be sure to tell everyone I failed. Yeah, I have gotten past that now. If there is one thing with this test, you had better check your ego at the door because it will strip you down, spray you with a fire hose and then slap you on the butt while saying “have a nice day, try again!”

The other responses I like are from people who taken other exams who think they are similar to the CPA exam. No Mr./Mrs. realtor, insurance agent, appraiser, and stock broker your exam is not the same. Stock brokers are the ones I love the best. They answer an ad in the paper, sit through a four month course, pass a multiple choice test and instantly they can tell people what to do with their life's savings. To everyone who doesnt understand I just say “Yeah it isnt easy”.

You know people can relate to you by their response alone. I spoke with one lawyer who passed both the Bar and CPA exam, he said he would take the Bar any day of the week over the exam.

I was 7 years removed from my degree and had marginal grades in college as I already was married and had a chronically ill wife and daughter. I got tired of working for my parents so bought the study guides and used discipline. I have average intelligence. I pass all four parts on first attempt and found out that it is best that no one know you are studying for or have taken the exam. Then I had to figure out how to do accounting and especially tax, which is what I have been doing for 16 years. Everyone thought I would fail and told me I would have to take several times, which was a motivating factor.

My study plan was just too exceptional (plus my intense frequent prayers) for me to fail. I had done everything so repetitively that it would have been hard for me to fail. I had at least an hour and a half time left for each part of the exam. If you want to know how to develop a study plan email me and I will tell you how I even passed auditing, which still makes no sense to me this very day. Oh, but I love tax., I remember one college professor telling the class that no one had made less than an A in her class and passed the exam on the first try. I made C's in both of her classes! LOL

This thread is silly to a certain extent. People will say these things no matter what test you take and that is expected. My dad tells me not to worry if I fail too. Of course I should worry, but I am not going to be cynical about him trying to comfort me.

And of course people will say say things like “I knew you would pass”, To me, they are saying, with your intelligence and hard work, of course you would pass. Admittedly this test is hard. But unless they are a candidate, you can't expect them to understand. And even if they understood, what would they say?

Of course with JFCPA, and racist comments with rknight etc, those are absolutely unacceptable.

Still, what would you like people who are trying to support you say instead? That is if they weren't clearly put downs.
