My favorite was my mom’s text message this morning–“Sorry. I was hoping it did not post when i didn’t hear from you. I still love you”.

To which I responded– “good to know your love isn’t contingent on me passing.”

What other things have people said to you all?

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CPAhawk – My mother-in-law does the whole, “How did you feel about it?” too. I also find it very annoying, mostly because I always feel terrible, even when I have passed!

    AUD - 82 Becker
    BEC - 75 Becker
    REG - 71, 82 Becker
    FAR - 66,61,71,74,70 and #6 80!!!! FINALLY DONE!!! 9/20/12
Yaeger and Yaeger CRAM for the final battle!

My gf's stepdad is a perfectionist, I needed him to print my NTS one time and he gave me hell about not having a printer

but I think he was almost as excited she and I were when I passed…hopefully you get the same treatment

the worst thing about the “how do you feel about it” question is that, in college, on a math exam you could check your work, heck in an accounting exam, if stuff balances if it works

cpa is mostly MC, you can't check that at all

When I failed AUD by 2 points, my wise co-worker, who has been a CPA for decades, said to me, “my advice to you is to study like you scored a 53, not a 73”.

    BEC - 10/18/2010 - 79
    FAR - 10/28/2010 - 82
    AUD - 11/04/2010 - 73; 02/18/2011 - 86 - IT'S OVER!!!!!!
    REG - 11/21/2010 - 83

One of my favorites is my boss, I had a customer spell two hundred ninety in the legal line as”two hundred night” despite my best attempt to convince that

    -The numbers say 290

-It couldn't possibly be anything else (which he didn't respond to)

-If you add a Y to it its Nighty and English was not this guys first language

Despite this, his response was “You should know the spelling has to be right, what are you gonna do when your an CPA and have to pay attention to details like that”…I tried to introduce the whole concept of materiality at which point he reacted “this is a bank there is no sense of materiality around here, we have to pay attention to the rules”

    …smh

Oh a different note and I know this is off topic, but rknight21 you should change it to rknight22 in honor of Ray Knight who played for the Mets…That's the end of my diversion from this topic!

MercyGrace, it took alot to hold it together after that comment. But at the end of the day I thought I'd get more pleasure out of stuffing my scores down his throat rather than getting flip out the mouth with him.

I agree that people say some stupid things; I'm definitely tired of hearing “you're smart, you will pass” while studying. But let's keep in mind before giving these people too hard of a time that they are just trying to help. In the end these are all comments and advice that people are hoping will motivate us or help us succeed.

    AUD: 95
    REG: 78
    BEC: 88

@Haze – I can't imagine how you held it in, but you showed him big time.

@MercyGrace – your comment reminds me of my father-in-law. Don't get me wrong, he”s a wonderful person. He's also the smartest person I've ever met and always excelled academically and professionally but doesn't think he's anything special. He truly doesn't understand why everyone else doesn't do as well as he does and assumes that his children (including by marriage) should ace every test they take. I adore him, but I will never tell him my scores even though I'm thrilled with how I did. Based on previous experience, I know that if I'd gotten 4 99's his first question would have been “why didn't you get 100's”.

    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80

My favorite was when I told my ex who is a CPA that I was going to take the exam…. his response “You know it's a hard exam, right?” I thought to myself yep, i do. I made sure to tell him that I recently passed all four parts, and now what, we have the same initials after our name.

When I told a good friend of mine who knows nothing about the exam/accounting profession that I was taking the exam but I wasnt a good test taker and studying my butt off in college to come out with a B+ at most that I was nervous about taking the exam… her response “so become a good test taker”. It was simply put and very sweet. If only that's all it took. 😉

I have gotten the “well you can always try for an easier certification” and after failing AUD twice now, people give me trouble that I can't pass because I am an auditor. Gee thanks!!! lol

    AUD(2/16/11) 51,64, retake Oct.

CPAhawk – omg my father is exactly the same way. For as far back as I can remember, his first sentence when he saw me after an exam always was – “so how many marks will you get?”. Now I have never been the type to try and calculate my score after any exam, nor do I look up answers to questions on the test. No point after the fact – what's done is done. But he didn't accept this reasoning, insisting that when he was “my age”, he always knew exactly how many marks he was going to get!! Imagine anyone being able to do that with the CPA exam!! I have only taken 2 and both times, I felt I had done poorly, but passed!

The most recent one I got from a co-worker was “maybe you shouldn't study” or “You're studying to much!!” If I didn't study I would completely bom it!! If I studied to much, I would have gotten a high passing grade.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!
