Future: I am not offended but I wouldn't say I'm NOT book smart. One of the reasons, I took the exam so many times is because I KNOW that I am a smart person. Smart was never a question and I knew I could pass. The question was WHY was I not passing after putting so much time and effort into studying. The only thing that I wish I had done differently would be to go to the doctor sooner in the process. I guess that would put into question my “street” smarts. =) I get what you are saying and I appreciate it. We all have our own path and I guess mine is to hold the record for the most sittings for the CPA exam. That's fine. Someone has to hold it and if it gives ONE person the inspiration to keep going I consider it worth it. The bottom line is that the exams are over and the docs fixed me up…I feel a million times better so it's ALL good!

Good luck on Aud in Jan. I'm sure you will do great!

It's unfortunate that we can't just say “congrats” without some caveat or back-handed compliment.

That's all I'll say about it.

Future: If I were a client, between you (as a first-test taker) and the rest of many CPAs w/multiple failed scores, I would NEVER hire your service for being such as a worthless, HEARTLESS, CARELESS, AND pompous writer.

Put it this way, I consider myself book smart and not street smart. Everyday I wish that I had street smarts because thats where “soft skills” come into play. When in my accounting career will memorizing accounting practices come into play? Never. It was not meant to be offensive and Baxter didn't take offense. I am sorry that you do though. In the end, all of us who put in the time and effort will become CPAs and Baxter is living proof of that!

The fact that Baxter posted a kind and encouraging comment in response to Future shows that she is one classy cat.

SMH…future…SMH. FYI, insulting someone's intelligence is NOT the right way to convey a compliment.

Maybe I don't understand the meaning of “book smart”. I always thought it meant the ability to excel in academics through testing. Its a category of smarts, just like “street smart”. Some people have more book than street, while others have more street than book. And some have an equal balance of both. There is no right mix of smarts, as each person's blend makes up who they are. If you look at historical figures, you could probably assess what their smart makeup is. Point being, its not a negative connotation, just simply an acknowledgement.

Please let me know if I am not making sense.

@Future I think your comment was out of the place, we understand what you mean but I don't think “book smart” applies for the CPA exam. It has really nothing to do in how well you are with books or not because this exam is a completely different thing. I say this because I have always had good scores at school (I think you would say “book smart”) and this exam is of discipline more than “exceling” anything.

CPA exam is a bunch of discipline and time involved here. You can never judge the smartness (in books as you imply) of one person based on scores, no for CPA.

The CPA itself, doesn't do that: you pass or not, period. No score is stated in your title.

As per Baxter, the fact of be persistent is what is amazing of her. MANY people “book smart” as you call are not even daring to take this exam because of the effort it involves.

All that said, Congrats to Baxter.
