In addition to the challenges that getting CPA brings, individuals that aren’t native English speakers have additional issues that they have to deal with and consider when studying. Anybody? Anybody who just began their CPA journey?

That would be me. I had been out of school for almost 9years and used cpaexcel – the cheapest self-study package they have with no hardcopy textbook. I passed them all on the first try. Maybe it was luck, 🙂

Anything worth doing is probably not easy, but the rewards are worth it. (unknown)

Ive been living in the US for 5 years and even though I have improved my English through my work, it is still difficult to capture the real subject matter in some of the questions. Spanish is my first language and I still learn something new every day about English grammar. I do find it fascinating, although I wish the CPA exam MCs and SIMS were more plain English. My first FAR exam had a SIM that I had no idea how I needed to approach it. The way it was set up and explained it was horrible for me. I do agree that FAR would be the best part to start with. Im studyng for AUD now and it is challenging but I like challenges.

@SlavicCPA – Sorry, I never had books. 🙂 I only have an online access for study text, exam questions, TBS, (proficiency questions + flashcards – never used them at all). Wiley 2014 pdf books that I never used too.

If you're wondering why, this is how I studied for all four sections. I only did an extensive reading – more like of skimming and scanning except for few topics where I had no idea at all. I hand wrote my notes out of the study text then do the MCQs after each topic. This helped me understand the topics. I made sure I had 3 weeks left before the actual exam. One week was allotted for re-typing my handwritten notes and strengthening my weaker areas. The final 2 weeks were mostly intense MCQs and re-reading some of my known weaker areas. I went over all the MCQs again topic by topic on CPAExcel. Then do some random MCQs along the way. I did the WTB twice in AUD, REG, BEC. I hadn't had a chance to do all the MCQs in FAR. I also did 1 or 2 simulated exams

    Feel free to get connected.
