I have a few questions for TX CPAs… any help would be greatly appreciated:

    – How long it takes to get the packet with the Rules of Professional Conduct test? Do I need to do anything to request this?

    – I sent an email to licensing asking for the Application of Issuance, yet no response. Do I need to call, or are they just being them?

    – Suggestions on the 4 hour ethics course? I hope that it could be done online, but the online ones that I am finding all say they are for the renewal, not initial.

Texas requires two ethics courses. One is part of the 150 hour credit requirement and one is a CPE course on Texas Ethics.

I'm wondering how they got around the 150 hour requirement one, as they said they didn't take one in class and they came from a state where they could sit with 120 hours.

I think you're grandfathered in if your're already a licensed CPA in another state. I have a co-worker who moved to TX from Missouri and she only had to do the 4-hour ethics CPE in order to get her license transferred.

I completed my 4-hour ethics course (piece of cake), had my employer fill out work experience, and completed the rules of professional conduct. I'm pretty nervous about the rules test. It's only 25 questions and you have to score at least an 85 to pass. There were at least 3 questions I circled because the answers could be interpreted different ways. I'll be really ticked off if I delay the certification process because I failed an open book quiz. Assuming I do pass, how long until I hear back?

I actually had a question about the Texas State Board…I sent all of my paperwork & the certification fee on Saturday Dec. 13th and all it says when I check the site is that they've received the fee and my application is “processing.” I'm wondering if any fellow Texans could give me an idea of how long it took for them to get their certification once they sent all the materials back to TSBPA…I'm going crazy with the wait : / Any info is much appreciated!

Shel- I sent mine in on Dec 16th and all of my app components (fee, ethics hrs, prof exam test score) just showed up this morning on the portal. As far as I know and can tell, everything is done. However I still haven't gotten my license issued.

For my recent fellow Texans that have passed….

I'm waiting on my packet but I've already sent the work experience form (got it from the tsbpa website) to a former supervisor to complete (my current supervisor is certified in Europe). I've also got the job description ready to go. Once I get the form plus his explanation for what qualifies him to supervise, etc, I should be good to go for that portion. I'm hoping to have it all in by the end of next week…then I'm guessing it will be a month or so?

And a lot of us must have the same rep at the state. Made note of that in the ol survey at the end of each exam!

    AUD - 84 4/2/14
    REG - 87 7/23/14
    BEC - 78 8/26/14

I'm finally an *official* CPA - TX
