Passed all 4 parts in TX… Now what? - Page 2

I have a few questions for TX CPAs… any help would be greatly appreciated:

    – How long it takes to get the packet with the Rules of Professional Conduct test? Do I need to do anything to request this?

    – I sent an email to licensing asking for the Application of Issuance, yet no response. Do I need to call, or are they just being them?

    – Suggestions on the 4 hour ethics course? I hope that it could be done online, but the online ones that I am finding all say they are for the renewal, not initial.

I too passed my last exam recently in TX and got my packet within 1 week.

I have a question on the 4hr ethics course. When they say 4 hrs, it is a one-time 4 hour course (like from 6pm-10pm, one time, done) or does it mean like a 4 hour credit (like at a University, 4 hour credit course) where you take it for a full semester. Dumb question I know.

Shiggity, It is a 4 hours course. You have to use one of the providers on the list in the packet. I used masterCPE which is a self paced internet based provider. It cost about $40 and took about an hour or less to complete.

Congrats to all who recently passed!

    @KEMcpa,

Thanks for the response! Glad to know it's only a one time, 4 hr course (which seems to realistically take 1 hr or less heh)

@MyLife…thanks for the info! I guess I am good since I was licensed at the end of August. Hopefully you make the cut!!

And, you're right on the different versions of answers awe all get from the state.

Not sure if there are any Texas folks who passed recently who can provide any more information than this. I too would like to be proactive, but it looks like Texas is fairly quick in getting the packet out. I sent my supervisor the work experience PDF file so he could fill that out whenever he gets a chance. Someone higher in this post said the packet came within a week, and they were certified within 30-40 days. Can anyone who passed within the last 3 months or so share their experience?

Thanks for reviving this post, I just passed all exams. Are you saying you can get employer to fill out the paperwork before taking the Code of Professional Conduct exam? I also recopied your text below so I don't hijack your post 🙂

I passed my last exam in August and TSBPA issued my license in late October. You should receive a giant packet within a week of receiving your passing score. It will contain a list of everything you need to do. I would wait and ask your supervisor to fill out the official experience form because it is a giant folded brochure. It will also ask for a job description, a description of your supervisor's experience, and proof that their license is in good standing.

The packet will also include a paper test on the rules of professional conduct and instructions about completing four hours of Texas Ethics CPE. Most of the CPE providers are online and you can find some for $40 or $50. There are a few other items like signing the oath of office in front of a notary, but the instructions are pretty clear.

Good luck. It can be a draw-out process. The guy I was assigned to at the board was unresponsive, so I started calling him every afternoon. If he picked up the phone, he was helpful and told me what to do next. If I left a voicemail, nothing happened.

Thanks for the response Auslaf. That's what I was looking for, someone who had gone through the process recently. I guess I'll wait for the packet and knock it out as fast as I can once I receive it. My assigned board member has historically been slow getting back to me, but all other board correspondence has come fairly quickly.

JTS254- My former supervisor was slow returning my experience form as well and the wait was excruciating. Giving them a heads up about the form is a good idea. If I were you, I would request a job description from HR so that won't hold you up.

    Congrats on passing!

I'm trying to transfer into TX and they are telling me I have to take an ethics course AT a college. I asked for clarification like 3 times and she said it must be taught by the university.

    Is this true?

@UCMCPA…are you already a CPA in another state? If so, I believe it's just an ethics CPE. I think you only have to take an approved ethics course at a university if you are an exam candidate.

UCMCPA- There is a community college in Central Texas that is approved by the state board. It is one of the biggest community colleges in the US and has roughly 30k students. They may have an online ethics course that would accommodate you.

I'm hoping it's just a CPE course. Those that have transferred their licenses to TX at my work said they didn't need to take a class at any college, I just hope it's the same.
