Passed all 4 parts in TX… Now what?

I have a few questions for TX CPAs… any help would be greatly appreciated:

    – How long it takes to get the packet with the Rules of Professional Conduct test? Do I need to do anything to request this?

    – I sent an email to licensing asking for the Application of Issuance, yet no response. Do I need to call, or are they just being them?

    – Suggestions on the 4 hour ethics course? I hope that it could be done online, but the online ones that I am finding all say they are for the renewal, not initial.

    CPmyA –

I am not sure about how long it takes to receive the packet.

I think the Application for Issuance will come in the packet. That is what I understood from the congratulatory email this morning.

I took the Ethics course from http://www.cpethink.com. It was like $45-50 and I pretty much downloaded the pdf and printed the final exam and search for all the answers and then went straight to the final exam and entered my answers. A certificate is printable immediately. This was one of the CPEs that were listed on the TSBPA website pdf. I don't think any of them are labeled “Initial”.

Packet will come in mail in about a weeks time, or may be earlier.

4 hr ethics course can only be done with the specific course providers, which will be listed in the packet. I got done with the cheapest piece of crap under 50 bucks, learned nothing, got the certificate printed at home in about 1 hour or so.

Send that in, along with a check and stuff and you will be good to go.

Its not a ethics exam, its a code of professional conduct exam. If you have taken regulation recently its a piece of cake. It asks about 25 questions you have to score 85 and above. Basic common sense questions.

Also in the package, there is a 4 pg form, that you & your employer needs to fill in to verify you working under a CPA.

Make sure you do that form correctly.

Congrats to the newest TX exam passers! I just went through this process and received my TX license. The packet will arrive in a week or less with very clear information about what to do next. But there is more waiting in store for you. I got my final passing score on Aug 6 and mailed everything back to them on the 13th. It took until Aug 30 to get it all approved.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I want nothing more right now than to be proactive in wrapping up the loose ends to get the actual license, but it looks like I should just wait for the packet and go from there.

Congrats to all of you who finished the exam.

Congrats to my fellow Texans on passing the exam. The licensing process took longer than expected but I am finally licensed. Are you all going to the swearing-in ceremony in December? I will be there!!

Will musicamor, I was told that we would have to be approved by September 14th to qualify for the December swearing -in. I hate that b/c I was so looking forward to being sworn-in in December.

@mylifeCPA…I did not know you had to be approved by that date. Where did you get that information? When I called the Board, they said that a letter will come in the mail concerning your eligibility for the swearing-in ceremony. Now, I am royally confused. lol

Musicamor – Some of us just received our last score as of last week. So I think it mainly refers to us as far as cutting it close for being sworn-in in December. I think if they told you, you would receive a letter about swearing-in, I think you are good to go.

I called Gilbert Gutteriz(one of the qualification team members) from the State Board and I inquired on what was the deadline for submitting my packet back to be able to qualify for the December swearing-in and he told me September 14th. He said that everything would need to be in and approved by the 14th. So I knew that cancelled me out. But when I received the packet it said September 21st. I can't remember who it was but in another TX thread, they said they called the State Baord and was told the deadline was the 14th as well.

I think we all get different answers from the State Board, I think if I were to call today, I would probably get another different answers. Definitely take it with a grain of salt b/c I am not sure if what I was told is actually true.
