As soon as I’m able to, I’m going to apply for the RCPA. Registered CPA license (no experience)

Which takes longer for the ILDPA to process and send the RCPA license : Applying online or applying via the paper application? I’m suspecting both end up collecting dust on the same desk.

For anyone waiting on IDFPR to add scores in order to get registered/licensed, my score was added today so maybe they will have everyone's up since I tested at the end of the Jan/Feb window.

Yeah, I just applied and got my license number.

But my license is only good until September 30, 2012. What's up with that? Five months?

I was expecting a CPA license to be good for 3 years, according to what I read on their website.

My manager was warning me about that and suggesting I wait until later in the year to get licensed; apparently all CPAs in Illinois have to renew at the same time every 3 years, even if you only recently received your license.

I'm tempted to just get registered (so I can be grandfathered in when IDFPR ends RCPA this summer), then get licensed in the fall. Do I really want to be a cheapskate though, for something I worked so hard for? Arrrgh

@R. Baker: I saw it differently.

After 7/1/2012, there is no more initial licensing of Registered CPA's. Existing RCPA's can renew, but there won't be any new RCPA licenses issued.

    https://www.idfpr.com/FAQ/DPR/toggledpr_RCPA.asp

(NOTE: This was out of date, it said 2010 so that was extended to 2012)

The Division will no longer accept applications for licensure as a RCPA on or after July 1, 2010.

Individuals who apply for and receive the RCPA license will be allowed to renew or restore their license indefinitely.

Finally! I just got registered today too, , just so I can call myself a CPA now, and will have the option in the future if i dont want to do the cpe's or do not need a license for work. I am getting licensed as well for job hunting purposes.

    Ok, got it registered 🙂

When can I start using the three letters? My license is not yet available for look up in the system.

As soon as you get a RCPA license or the full CPA license, you can officially use the CPA after your name in Illinois.

    @bobkorz

    Thanks!

I printed out the temporary one that says I have an active RCPA license and the number, so I assume this one should be enough to establish legitimacy.

    Or maybe not 😀

The temporary license page you printed out, is proof you are licensed, until you get your official license certificate.

Yes, and it's already in the IDFPR system. It takes a day after the registration. Thanks again 🙂

I got my official license certificate quickly, within a week of applying to ILDPR.

I got my registration in the mail too. Going to mail the licence app Monday, see how long that takes.

I passed my final part on 2/27 and the ethics exam about two weeks later, but I don't know what (if anything) I need to do to get my exam scores to the IDFPR to become registered. The IDFPR website still says that they do not have my exam scores on file. I have my certificate number (effective 4/6) on the ILBOE website, so I submitted the IDFPR my scores via the verification request system, but I'm not sure what that did (if anything). Does it take weeks for these things to be processed? There's a shockingly lack of information on the final steps of the certification/registration process.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

@cpacharlie, my understanding (since i just went through this) is IBOE sends final scores to IDFPR on the 1st and 15th of each month, so if you were certified 4/6 your scores will be sent 4/15. The IDFPR then takes about 3 weeks to update their computers (who knows why it takes so long). I would say for you it will be in first week of May before you can do anything like registering online. For me it took about 1 month to go from certificate# recieved to registration online.

@cpacharlie I didn't wait until the 1st or 15th. There is a part of the ILBOA website where you can send for free, your scores to ILDPR. I think this makes the process faster. That's what I did.

And make sure that the AICPA sends your ethics score to ILBOA. Otherwise they'll never get it.
