Cheap Accounting Credits NY State Will Accept

I need 6 more accounting credits to get the 150 for my license. I called the NYS Office of Professionals and they basically told me I run the risk of taking classes they won’t accept and they refuse to review classes to see if they’re eligible.

So to prevent the risk of wasting $2,000+, can anyone recommend additional accounting classes / credits that the NY licensing board will definitely accept? Preferably ones that are affordable?

Check out UNA online. They are accredited and inexpensive. Make sure you don’t duplicate classes you already have. Sounds like you need two classes. Are you sure they need to be accounting classes? We just had this discussion in another thread. I am absolutely certain they need to be accounting credits. My university deliberately sets kids up to kinda fail by requiring 24 credits for an undergraduate degree, and they try to force the 5th year masters on you.

Cool beans. NY CPA page says 33 hours have to be in accounting. If you have 24 and take 6 will you still be short? I am sure you are on top of it. See if you can take them at UNA, so cheap and quick. Good luck!!

I think you should have figure this out before even choosing the major. A lot of accounting programs are now 4+1 and undergraduate is almost always 120cr.

On the NYS CPA license website there is a list of acceptable classes. Just pick one out of those, with an exact matching name.

    http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpa150hour.htm

If your budget is 6 credits for $2000 you can probably just get it out from CUNY or an online class.

The state board will not look at your class, unless you run into a representative super nice. Call NASBA instead. NASBA is the one that approve your education.

@Monikernc Yeah I goofed that up I need 9 lol

@JFKGY I always knew I had to do this because it's cheaper than a 4+1 by a long shot. I emailed NASBA yesterday at cpaes-ny@nasba.org I'm just guessing it'll take a long time before I get a response haha

    NASBA… It might.

Just take some very obvious accounting classes, forensic accounting, corporation accounting, s-crop, taxation II, auditing II, corporate accounting, guarantee accounting classes.

Take something you are interested at, and online.

@job this should easy to resolve look through the list on the NY ED Requirements page and take what you need – 3 classes should not be hard to find. I bet UNA will have them and you will get out for about $1600

Dont use UNA. NYS will not accept as acc credits. Do UCLA Ext… all 4 cr classes ..but ucla 4 cr = 2.67 nys credit per conversion. so you'll need to take 3 classes.
