Question:

How are they? I’m planning to take Auditing in order to be licensed in NY as well

Does NY Board accept Auditing from LSU Online (they should as it’s an upper-level class…starts with 3 and LSU is regionally accredited).

I’m really having so much trouble with the NY Board (California gave my foreign degree 172 credits while NY gave 120) that I’m taking nothing for granted.

I'm not sure about the online classes but I believe LSU is a good school. My brother went there.

I just read credit is given by LSU-Baton Rouge (which is obviously an accredited school).

I should be good to go.

I took 2 of their online distance learning courses. They were a joke, but if you just need them for credit it's a quick way to get a few hours. And they're cheap too.

My buddy took some online classes to get to his 150 hours with LSU, don't remember if any were accounting related.

I took three classes and Massachusetts counted them for my 150, and I assume NY would too. If you're really nervous about it call the state board to confirm but you should be fine.

I think they're great. I have completed 3 and have 2 in process. They all count toward 150 for me in TN. You get an official LSU transcript just like you would for any other school in traditional classes. They will never know they were online, they just see the class name and grade on the transcript. I wouldn't say they are a joke. Some classes are easier than others but you teach yourself 100% so that can get tricky in some of the more difficult classes. They also have more higher level accounting classes than other distance programs like Advanced Accounting and Government/Not for Profit classes. Plus they are cheap and with my work and travel schedule I like going at my own pace.

I came across this post. I'm looking to possibly take one of these, as I need 3 accounting credits as part of what I need to get to 150, and my local CC's and such only offer accounting classes I have already taken. What I don't understand is the testing thing with proctors. It said –

“Exams. You will need to arrange to have your exams proctored by an approved exam administrator. Your exams will be mailed to your proctor as you become eligible, by submitting the required number of lessons. It may take 3-7 business days for the exams to reach your proctor, depending on where you live in the United States. It may take up to two weeks for your exam to be received back in our office from your proctor. If you are in another country, it will take longer. It is possible to purchase priority processing services, which will decrease mail time. “

Can someone clarify this that took one of the LSU classes?

This is the way it worked for me: When I start a class, I go onto the LSU site and select one of their approved proctors. They say you are “eligible” for an exam when you finish the final lesson before a test. So, if the first exam is over lessons 1-5, when you submit lesson 5, they mail the exam. When I finish the last lesson before a test, LSU mails the exam to my proctor in town. I call the proctor to schedule the exam, pay their fee and take it there. The proctor then sends the completed exam back to LSU who then grades the exam and posts the grade online. It usually takes a few days in the mail (3-4 days and I'm in TN).

I would look at the approved proctor list for your area and give them a call to find out about the fee and to make sure they still do it. I chose a proctor once without calling and they mailed the exam back to LSU without me knowing because they had decided they didn't do that anymore. So definitely call the proctor before you schedule!

Thanks, problem for me is that there is no approved proctors near me, I am on Long Island, nothing on Long Island or even in Manhattan. So I guess this choice is out now. I'll keep looking for something else.

I think there is a process to add an approved proctor. I have not done it but I remember reading it somewhere. May be worth a call.

I have taken a class with LSU online distant learning. It was one of their upper level accounting course, and was fairly straightforward. The teachers take a little too long to grade the assignments, so in the end of the course, I was studying for the final, and took the final without receiving all my assignments back.
