The worst exam experience ever! - Page 2

I remember reading a post asking if studying for the exam could lead to divorce. In my case, it did. 1 exam passed, 3 failed. I sat for REG on a Saturday and one week later was packing my things into boxes. Having to leave the state I was in and transferring to a new state, I’ve battled through the job application process having my share of rejections and insulting job offers. Thankfully I found a new home and recently accepted a job offer from a great firm. Life is looking good again. Now it’s time to get back on that horse and prepare for my retakes.

As I sit here filling out my application for a new state, I have a question. Under the section where it says “Indicate the exams you are applying for” it has anther portion that says “Experience: This section only required for Public Accountant (PA) examination” followed by employer address and mailing address. Does this mean that in this state requires candidates to be working for a firm to sit for the exam? Also it has a notary certificate section. Where do I go to get something notarized?

Good comments by Keely and mrogovitz. I am sorry to hear your struggles. It is tough to juggle a love life with the CPA exams. I would advise not getting back into dating until you complete the exams. If you are already in a relationship, I will constantly talk to your partner about the good things that would happen once you pass the exams. Good luck with your tests.

what a world we live in…

On the other hand, I am totally supportive of starting a dating thread if Jeff approves 🙂

this would require a new private message function, so maybe you can start charging us for server space. it's better odds than say match.com.

A dating thread and a spouse support group have been discussed in the past and they got shot down pretty quickly. A dating thread could lead to some really hard feelings and snarky posts. A support group for spouses could lead to… well, lets just say I'm glad my husband of 13 years didn't go looking for support during my 5 year train ride through hell or I'd be in jail instead of a CPA.

I ended up going to the state board building and they notarized my stuff there. They also told me exactly what they needed and now I'm preparing to take REG in January, just before the tax season hits. It's my first tax season and I can't wait. The change of pace and many work hours will be a welcomed distraction. I expect my divorce to be finalized over the next couple of months. And don't worry, I have no intentions of being in a relationship any time soon.

Although my CPA quest is far from over, I have no idea what I would do without it. A great career has been what keeps pushing me through this rough time. For anyone reading this and is questioning whether or not they should get the CPA, you're stupid if you don't. You can never compare what four tests can do for the rest of your life.

jnnthom, good for you, looking forward and concentrating on your career for now! Work really does help a great deal when your personal life is difficult. I was still reeling from my divorce when I moved to where I live now and my (then new) job, with the long hours and intellectual challenges kept me sane.

By the time I started the exams I was (and still am) in a great relationship with another CPA who totally understood the long, frustrating hours of study and anxiety. It was great to have his support. So if at all possible, when you're ready to date again, date a CPA. 😉
