How do you keep the formulas straight for BEC?

I’m using Becker and I’m getting so overwhelmed by how many formulas there are. On top of that there’s all the conceptual material too. My exam is in 15 days.

For those of you who have taken BEC, how did you study and keep track of all of these formulas?

Also, for those of you who used Becker, did you feel like Becker over-prepared you? I feel like some of the computation multiple choice are so involved and complex there’s no way a question could be that difficult on the exam.

And don’t even get me started on the IT.

    Am I done yet?

For BEC, I compiled all the formulas I felt I needed to memorize (which is most) for each Becker chapter 1- 5 excluding IT. At the end I had 5 pages of formulas, one for each class, that I would review each day very quickly to keep it fresh during my review. I think Becker does a great job of preparing you for the exam. Though some Becker MC can be complex (and probably won't be tested in that detail), it gets your brain in another gear for MC's on the test that require a bit more work (although not to that exact extent.) Don't get too caught up in complex computations though, make sure you are getting the easy ones right too bc you'll get your fair share of those on the exam.

Do the best you can and move forward in the material. Study everything and do hella MCQs. BEC is the only exam that I did a hail mary on. I had 10 days after I took far and I figured I would try to study BEC and if I failed, I would simply take it the next quarter. In those 9 days, I tried to do 50 MCQS a day and did not read anything. I passed with a 75. I don't think I could have done that with any of the other exams.

I only memorized a couple of the ratios. They give you the tools you need in the SIMS.

    AUD - 64, 80 Passed on 10/09/17

    BEC - 75 Passed on 12/09/17

    FAR - 69, 71, 73, 83 Passed on 06/10/18

    REG - 81 Passed on 09/10/17

I used a lot of MCQ practice and a lot of rewriting my notes to reflect the guided solutions. NINJA MCQ is excellent in that regard (I've tried Becker, Yaeger, Wiley).

Normally I don't favor the learn by osmosis method. It's more important to understand the underlying theory; you can't prepare for every topic but you can improve critical thinking. Here, it helped because there are a lot of formulas, not just ratios.

With the notes themselves– I grouped like formulas together so that I sorta memorize them at once. I also saw the differences more easily. In general, finding the connective tissue helped me pass each part. Also, don't be afraid to use a crutch when you first start. I had my notes in front of me for the first round of MCQ practice.

    Hope that helps.

I would recommend creating flashcards with the formulas and practicing with them. Flashcards was the primary way I reviewed for the exams.
