Hi Everyone,
I am taking BEC tomorrow, this will be my first attempt at BEC and will be the last exam I take if I can pass. My FAR expires on the 27th of Feb.
Since a lot is riding on this exam I am so nervous… It is hard for me to focus today. So I wanted to share what I did in terms of preparation.
I initially started studying using the Wiley CPA excel book. I quickly went over the book by reading and doing MCQ. I must say in my personal opinion I was so lost after finishing the Wiley book. Since this is my last exam I know when I am extremely under prepared.
I decided to sign up for Becker live classes and due the self study as well. This was my first time ever using Becker but felt like it was needed. I wanted to say that personally the live classes are not too great in my opinion. Although it did force me to view the lectures and do the MCQ before class. Going through the information quickly for me never works that well. After going to the live classes I read/reviewed the chapters in the BEC book and took notes. I re-did the MCQ and that is when things got a little better. That being said I still felt overwhelmed.
After my run with the Becker material I purchases the WTB and went through each question once. I ended up with an average of 75 percent. which was kind of disheartening because I thought becker would have prepared me slightly more than that.
After that I did what I have done for my last two exams and used Ninja MCQ. Things got better when I used Ninja MCQ but they were still tough.
My ninja stats average is kind of high i believe because I did not go through each question once initially and actually did a combination of letting Ninja pick 30 mcq for me and also picking new questions. I probably would do around 5 sessions with 3-4 sessions with Ninja picking and 1-2 sessions with new questions. I do remember always getting around 70-80 with new questions. my stats are:
Average: 84%
Trending: 93 %
Total attempts: 2928
Questions not answered correctly: 80
Questions not seen: 0
Time 51 hours
After that I took the Becker practice exams. One on Monday and One on Tuesday
Exam 1 : 81%
Exam 2: 70%
I just averaged the MCQ scores based on each exam. the Written was not included.
after getting the 70% I was really discouraged.
I took the Ninja Finals after. One and Wednesday and One today.
Exam 1: 97%
Exam 2: 95%
I was able to quickly finish the Ninja MCQ questions compared to the Becker questions, obviously because I spent a lot of time prior just doing Ninja MCQ,and had 2-3 week gap from the Becker questions.
I also went through most of the SIMs in Ninja just to look at them. Writing is not my strong suit, but hopefully my time management will be good enough during the written portion.
I am going to just quickly go over some formulas, re-write the variance calcs, review IT ninja notes, review some of the COSO IC and ERM in Becker book, go over COBIT.
It might be because there is a lot riding on this exam but I just feel very nervous, and I tried to prepare the best I could. Like many of you I heard BEC was the easiest section but from what I have experienced it seems to tied with FAR for me.
Also would like to add that I just highly recommend Ninja MCQ for any exam, cant say anything about BEC yet but for AUD and REG it really saved my life. Well Sorry for venting, but thanks to the community and this forum. I love how this forum is set up and the people on this forum as top notch. So rare to find when the internet community is full of trolls lol.
