When the question is wordy and ridiculously long, I normally read what's being asked first so I can pick only info that I need while reading the story.

    Hiya,

I don't post much, but I have been following along and wanted to chime in as I took BEC yesterday.

I have actually have taken BEC before and passed it but had to retake it as I lost credit due to my numerous FAR retakes. This time around I used a 2012 Becker book to make my own notes, and supplemented it with Ninja Notes and MCQs. Here is where I was with the MCQs:

    Average: 67%

    Trending: 84.5%

    Total Attempts: 1131

    Questions Not Seen: 529

    Questions Answered Correctly: 737

I am not sure if I got a false sense of confidence based on my trending score, and expected the exam to be easier, but I thought the exam was brutal. Max 10 questions were calculation based, the rest were all theory based. Some of the theory based questions were asking things that were mentioned in a random paragraph in the Becker book. Making matters worse some of the questions (@ 5-7) were on topics not covered in Becker or Ninja notes AT ALL – hoping those were test questions.

I wanted to post my experience because I (foolishly) expected a lot of the calculation based questions based on some online chatter. I spent a large portion of my last week focusing on these items. Don’t do what I did! Focus on everything.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your post Big K. Do you feel that because you used material that was 3 years old it could have adversely affected you? I'm sure not a whole lot has changed but I know Becker recently updated their lectures (not content).

Hi I'm new to this forum and sitting for BEC this afternoon. I'm glad I found this forum last night while looking for tips for the exam. This is my first attempt at any of the sections.

I'm using Becker self study and have spent about 99% of my study time on MCQ. I briefly read through the WC examples but figured for 15% of the overall score, I could wing my way through it.

I've been averaging in the high 80s to low 90s on the progress test questions so hoping the exam is at least somewhat close to the questions I've been practicing until I can't look at another MCQ.

Just mainly reviewing questions to keep everything fresh until it's time to head to the exam site.

The New Wave Co. is considering a new method for allocating overhead to its two products, regular and

premium coffee beans. Currently New Wave is using the traditional method to allocate overhead, in

which the cost driver is direct labor costs. However, it is interested in using two different drivers: machine

hours (MH) for separating and roasting beans, and pounds of coffee for packing and shipping. Machine

hours for the current month are 700 hours, direct labor cost per pound of coffee is $1.25, and direct

materials cost per pound of coffee is $1.50. There are 1,000 pounds of coffee packed and shipped for

the current month. The following data are also available:

    Regular Premium

Overhead for the current month $5,000.00

Cost pool for separating and roasting beans 3,500.00, reg: 150 MH, prem: 550 MH

Cost pool for packing and shipping 1,500.00, reg: 500 pounds, prem: 500 pounds

What is the total cost per pound for the premium coffee using the new activity-based costing method?

    a. $5.00

    b. $5.75

    c. $7.75

    d. $9.75

    The correct answer is D.

    (550/700)*3,500 = 2,750

    (500/100)*1,500 = 750

Then you divide 3500/500=7 then add DL and DM.

My only question is how are we supposed to divide 3500 by 500? Where is this 500 coming from.

The 500 is the pounds of premium coffee

The 500 is the amount of premium coffee to get the per pound cost

    Change Management

    Control Validation

An easy way to remember the order is to go in Alphebetical order

@Highlight, I'm taking it next Saturday. I'm up to 60% trending and it's ever so slowly sinking in. Just have to keep hammering questions and reading explanations until it clicks. Thanks for that tip! 🙂

Only 5 days left, so I'm going to take a Ninja practice exam tomorrow.

I still don't have all these freaking formulas memorized **sigh**

At this rate, I don't know how effective I'll be at work this upcoming week. I'll be physically present, but my mental state is entirely another story!

Hey numb, would you mind telling me where in the Becker material that change continuum stuff is (if you happened to know)? It all sounds so familiar but I'm having a hard time locating it in my notes and the book. This cannot be a good sign lol.
