I have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

Let's break it down with what we know:

Direct Labor Efficiency Variance = (Std. hours – actual hours) x Std. rate.

For the variance to be unfavorable, actual hours needs to be greater than your standard hours.

So let’s look at the OH Efficiency Variance (S”E”V).

OH Efficiency Variance 2v3; [BA] [BS]

    2: Budgeted F.OH + (Std. VCpu x Actual hours)

    3: Budgeted F.OH + (Std. VCpu x Std. hours)

So assuming everything else is constant and your Actual Hours > Std. Hours…

Your 2 [BA] will be greater than your 3 [BS]. And since your actual costs are greater than your budgeted costs you’ll have a Unfavorable variance.

The key here is to realize that the M.OH Efficiency Variance measures the difference between your actual hours and standard hours. This is the same items that are measured for your DL Efficiency Variance.

This is my understanding of the problem.

    Thanks @InfernoOmni.

One more question with regards to B2. In a particular MCQ the answer explanation states that

For a Company to Breakeven, Company must generate Contribution Margin equal to Total Fixed Cost.

I did not completely understand this statement. I mean Breakeven(Units) =Fixed Cost /Contibution Margin

Trying to understand logic behind it.Someone who can explain me.

    Thanks

Sure, no problem. Think about it like this.

Your breakeven point is the point in which your all of your costs/expenses equals all of your sales revenue. Remember that.

So your contribution margin = Sales – Variable Costs. To make it easier, let's say I made $100,000 this year and my variable costs were $75,000. So… sweet… got a $25,000 contribution margin.

In order for you to breakeven, your Fixed Costs has to equal $25,000. Thus.

Sales = $100,000 vs. VC = $75,000 + FC = $25,000. There's your breakeven. Note that your FC of $25,000 also equals your Contribution Margin (SP-VC) of $25,000.

I hope so! You'll be at my point soon. It wasn't even 2 weeks ago where I was struggling with B2 and B3. Now I feel like I own it (or most of it).
