I have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

@pia ach – inflation in a foreign country causes the money in that country to be worth less. In other words, the price of the product goes up so we have to have more money to buy the product. We do not want to buy from a country where we have to spend more money if we can get it elsewhere for less money.

    I hope that helps.

Oops, I just saw inferno's explanation. What inferno said. 🙂

I started studying for BEC a few weeks ago. It is the dullest topic so far. I can't get into it. I would rather study for financial again.

    Hello everyone,

Needed some inputs on BEC study. I have completed chapter B2 have solved the MCQ once taken notes and read the chapter from textbook,

Now was thinking to start B3 but was thinking to go and again solve B2 MCQ's as I am feeling it will be helpful to master that topic. But at the same time I think it will take too long this way. I feel Chapters B1-B3 are imp so I should do this for these chapters.

Anyone else did the same solved back all the MCQ's back before going to next chapter?

FAR- 79 -->Becker self study, Final review & Flashcards
REG -72-->Becker ,76-->Becker plus Wiley test bank
    AUD- 73 Becker,72-->Becker+Wiley,69-->Added ninja notes,89 --> Added Gleim review
BEC- 84 Becker plus Wiley Test bank

    I am Done !!!!

Take your time with B1-B3. Specifically B2 and B3. But don't spend TOO much time.

You'll get the mastery of B2 and B3 during your review after you cover the rest of the topics. Try to manage your time with your test date so that you have 2-3 weeks of solid review over all of the Chapters.

But do spend more time on B2 and B3 then you normally would with say… the rest of the chapters. They're hard to wrap your head around, but once you do, you'll be golden.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

Can someone please explain this question?

Variable overhead is applied on the basis of standard direct labor hours. If for a given period, the direct labor efficiency variance is unfavorable, the variable overhead efficiency variance will be:

    a. Favorable.

    b. Unfavorable.

    c. The same amount as the labor efficiency variance.

    d. Indeterminable since it is not related to the labor efficiency variance.

    Explanation

Choice “b” is correct. If variable overhead is applied on the basis of standard direct labor hours, and direct labor efficiency variance is unfavorable, the variable overhead efficiency will (also) be unfavorable.

Choices “a”, “c”, and “d” are incorrect, based on the above explanation.

Let's break it down with what we know:

Direct Labor Efficiency Variance = (Std. hours – actual hours) x Std. rate.

For the variance to be unfavorable, actual hours needs to be greater than your standard hours.

So let’s look at the OH Efficiency Variance (S”E”V).

OH Efficiency Variance 2v3; [BA] [BS]

    2: Budgeted F.OH + (Std. VCpu x Actual hours)

    3: Budgeted F.OH + (Std. VCpu x Std. hours)

So assuming everything else is constant and your Actual Hours > Std. Hours…

Your 2 [BA] will be greater than your 3 [BS]. And since your actual costs are greater than your budgeted costs you’ll have a Unfavorable variance.

The key here is to realize that the M.OH Efficiency Variance measures the difference between your actual hours and standard hours. This is the same items that are measured for your DL Efficiency Variance.

This is my understanding of the problem.

    FAR: 50, 76!

    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!
