I have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

Please someone anybody. I need guidance on COBIT. Wiley refers to the new COBIT 5 and Becker 2012 refers to the Old COBIT different strategies. Which one is testable because COBIT 5 was published last Nov 2012. Wiley only has two paragraphs dedicated to the principles and enablers. Guide this lost soul AICPA CCSO does not say specifically which COBIT.

And the new COSO 17 principles which is better looking version of the old COSO but worded differently does anyone know if its testable this session, because journal of accountancy has published a couple of articles on this. I don't trust the AICPA people they might just throw in the stuff I don't want to dedicate time on. Uugh this is frustrating.

If anyone has any new information about new updates i.e. SEC or NASDAQ they would like to chime in please do. I hate surprises during the exam.

If anyone needs a little cheering up, this was designated as a “hard” question under the AICPA 2013 released questions:

    28. CPA-08307

A manufacturing company has several product lines. Traditionally, it has allocated manufacturing overhead costs between product lines based on total machine hours for each product line. Under a new activity-based costing system, which of the following overhead costs would be most likely to have a new cost driver assigned to it?

    a. Electricity expense.

    b. Repair and maintenance expense.

    c. Employee benefits expense.

    d. Depreciation expense.

@barelystayingsane I try to always think if it's more like authorizing, recording, or custodial/physically keeping. So, in IT, that means the librarian, who actually has physical access to all the IT stuff, doesn't program (which is the equivalent of recording for IT)…stuff like that. I don't have a comprehensive list of all the activities that are incompatible, but if you had questions about specific ones, I could take a stab at them. 🙂

@Eliabraham If I remember right, the standards didn't change drastically, just the exact wordings. If that's correct, then I'll look over both, but not worry too much about the details. I don't think you'll be asked “Which is the exact wording”, but rather asked questions that are based on the principles. What I can tell you for sure is that I passed using just the information in Wiley (book and test bank) and that I don't remember having any issues related to COBIT or COSO…so either I forgot, or Wiley covered that material sufficiently for my exam. Between Becker and Wiley, I'm sure that you'll have sufficient information!

@Lilla thanks! Becker keeps flip-flopping back and forth between if system analysts and application programmers can be combined. They also flip-flopped on whether or not application programmers can be combined with system programmers.

Mmm my understanding was that generally system and application need to be separated. Can't remember for absolute certain, though. Sorry!

Thank you Lilla I was starting to panic. Tunnel focusing on those two issues instead of stuying the other topics.

Did you use 2013 BEC Wiley and Becker books?

I used 2013 Wiley books and test bank, but nothing from Becker. So my point was that if Wiley was good enough for the specific questions I had, then surely Wiley and Becker combined would be good enough for any that they throw you! Since your Becker is 2012, that could be the cause for the difference…but my impression is that the overall concepts are the same, and that's what they really test you on.
