I have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

Does anyone not use the tabular format for variance questions? I find it easier to just figure out what they're asking and go from there. I find it more complicated and time consuming learning and using the tabular format and much easier just reading what they're asking for and calculating it out. Am I missing something?

    FAR 02/21/13 - 95
    REG 07/02/13 - 87
    AUD 08/02/13 - 94
    BEC 08/30/13 - 85
    Ethics Exam - 90

@peetree – it took me awhile for the formula to click, but now that it has…I write it out every time, answer it, then go through it logically like you do to verify that my calculation was correct. The only trouble I have is with the overhead variance (ie. standard “allowed” and such) – so I'll be reviewing that more in depth this weekend.

Thank you mmp3!! I am trying my best to memorize the variances I remember that I was really good with them when I took managerial accounting but for some reason the way Becker is explaining them is not clicking I might have look for my class notes see if that help!

I am a little behind today and I am taking my time to understand B2 hopefully I finish today and can start the lectures for B3.

@peetree and oilgaslb I am right there with you the way Becker explains and sets the tabular format is NOT helping at all!

    FAR 5/29/13 75
    REG 7/27/13 84
    BEC 08/31/13 84
    AUD 11/02/13 89

When I do a variance question, it usually goes like this:

1.) Is it a DM/DL variance? PURE SAD DADS. Plug in memorized formulas.

2.) Is it an OH variance? SEV? or BV? Let's say it's E for Efficiency variance. E is 2v3. ABA BSA or BA vs. BS. BA = Budgeted F.OH + (Std. hours x VCpu). BS = etc. etc. Compute the difference.

I get it right every single time with the above method. Just a combination of remembering the proper formulas and knowing where SEV & B variances lay.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

People, about a week ago I fretted about getting OH variances 70-80% of the times (which is not enough for me) and that was upon second review. Now, fast forward and upon reviewing that subject for the third time and cementing in my head ‘abbabusy” “A BA BS A”, I've got this area mastered and have not missed a single time.

As InfernoOmni said, it is “just a combination of remembering the proper formulas and knowing where SEV & B variances lay” and nothing else to it!

If you have a working understanding of variances ie: PURE DADS mnemonic for Labor and Materials I think your good to go. OH variances was one of my weakest areas going into BEC and I did fine. I wouldn't drop hours into it if your just can't get it. That time is better spent on broader areas
