jeffKeymasterI have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

UMassCPAMemberHi everyone, I recently started BEC with CPAexcel. I was wondering how other people are doing with CPAexcel and how others are going through the material.
I've used CPA excel and a little Wiley test bank for AUD and FAR. For each section I would read the text, look at the slides and/or watch the lecture (usually both) and do the questions plus take notes and sometimes make flash cards. I feel like I need to adjust my plan to incorporate more review or something to make sure I'm actually retaining as much as I need to.
I only gave myself 3 weeks for BEC but I'll be studying full time. I did the same thing or AUD and it wasn't easy but I know I work best under pressure. I have myself 8 weeks for FAR and found myself getting distracted constantly and felt worse going into the test than I did after my 3 week study binge for AUD.
Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone has a strategy for reviewing along the way and about people's study plans with CPAexcel!
AUD: 79
FAR: 81
BEC: 8/29/13

smyoung0521Participant@mmp3 the answer is below….sorry for the formatting. The explanation for the answer being “under the weighted average method, a total of 9,900 equivalent units were produced in Forming during May for a total cost of $85,500. Therefore, the weighted average cost/unit is $85,500/9,900 = $8.64 and and total costs transferred out to Production is: 7,500 x 8.64 = $64,800. If the spoilage would have been abnormal spoilage, it would not have been transferred to the Production department as a product cost. But since it was normal spoilage, those costs are inventoried as a part of the completed units.” My main problem was trying to just get the equivalent units.
Actual Equiv
% units units Cost
Beg WIP 100 2,000 2,000 10,000
Plus: Units started 8,500 7,900 75,500
Total (plug) 10,500 9,900 85,500
Less: Spoilage 100 (500) (500)
Less: Completed 100 (7,000) (7,000)
Ending WIP 80 3,000 2,400

ZaqParticipantJust a heads up.
Finished B3 review and redoing HW today. Did about 6-7% better on my previous attempt the first time around. It always starts off rough, but then once you start doing the questions over and over my score starts going up.
I just wrote an outline of B1, B2, and B3 using the Becker roman numerals as the subsections. Backing up and seeing everything from a broad overview really brings some things into perspective. It also feels like the information I'm studying isn't endless. Sometimes focusing so much on the detail makes you feel like the information is endless, but with enough time and repetition, the brain wraps itself around it eventually.
Going to focus the rest of the weekend writing notes, flashcards, and progress tests on B1, B2, and B3. Then gonna' add B4, B5, and B6 as they come.
FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
AUD: 65, 91!?
BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

WolfchickenMember@Inferno I just about wrapped up B3 review as well. I agree about improving on scores the second time around. I found it extremely helpful making my own notes and rewriting them during the review. It helps with the endless amount of formulas that you have to memorize for this exam. I was feeling that sense of doom yesterday about BEC but it helps to know that other people can feel your pain. I am going to start B4 review tomorrow and then start B5 on Sunday. Hopefully I will wrap up B6 by Tuesday so I can do the final review on Wednesday and Thursday. That way I can focus on any weak areas for a week before I take the exam on August 23. This exam feels so much different than REG(the only one I have taken so far.) I am going to PASS!!!

lmendez2MemberHello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself, I am currently waiting for my REG score and I am studying for BEC, I am about to finish B2 and I am already tired of all the formulas and “find this” “find that” questions in Becker, everyone says that this is the easiest section!! how is that possible? I am feeling more overwhelmed with BEC than REG or FAR! I am hoping to finish B2 and start B3 tomorrow and hopefully finish B3 by Sunday.
I hope the other chapters get better I am not a fan of managerial accounting and this is taking any motivation I had left after taking REG.
I hope everyone is ready for a power weekend!!

mmp3MemberImendez2: Hang in there, I felt the exact same way while going through B2 and B3. It's all downhill after that. B4 through B6 are not terribly quantitative and I found them to actually be pretty fun to study (if that's possible:). And miraculously when you go back and review B2/B3 you will find that the questions that took you 10 minutes the first time you attempted them will be better and easier to calculate. It's just a matter of getting the formulas memorized and practicing. You have a good schedule going so you should be fine for the exam.

oilgaslbMemberSo after taking a break from studying for 2 weeks for a vacation with no electronics and/or time for flashcards…I'm back at it. BEC round 2 on the 24th. I've got the last section in Becker to finish up (about 1/2 through the lecture) and then I have to go back and finish up the financial management section. I gave up out of frustration and I'm really hoping it clicks this time. As long as I get through both of those today, tomorrow at the latest, I've got just under 2 weeks to review.
Doable? Words of wisdom?

peetreeMemberDoes anyone not use the tabular format for variance questions? I find it easier to just figure out what they're asking and go from there. I find it more complicated and time consuming learning and using the tabular format and much easier just reading what they're asking for and calculating it out. Am I missing something?
