jeffKeymasterI have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

AmayMemberI got a 73…was planning on going for FAR in October but maybe I should get back to this one…
BEC: 73, 81
AUD: 85
FAR: 71, 77
REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

AnonymousInactiveAny advice on the written portion? I feel like you can't really “study” for them because there is no right or wrong answer.

AnonymousInactiveWould I be crazy to start studying tomorrow and test at the end of the month? I can only really study on the weekends. Would 8 power days be enough for BEC? If I push the exam back until beginning of Oct, it pushes back my whole schedule and I will bump into another tax season.

AmayMember@Caddygirl7 I just failed BEC because I tried to cram all the info into 4 weeks of studying. Despite the personal factors that may have led to my failure, I think the main reason was the fact that I did not give myself enough time to review. I mean, I barely had time to get through all of the material once. I got to a point where I was forced to only work 80% of the MCQs in Becker software because I simply did not have time to do it all!
Mind you, I was studying very inefficiently the first 2 weeks, and I had started studying technically back in April and took a long break before my 1-month cram session (no, I did not re-do the 1 and 1/2 ch's I had covered months ago and yes my NTS was expiring so I was forced to schedule my test). I also got unexpectedly busy at work with a long client commute to top it off, so the odds were just not in my favor. Again, I think it would have been doable to do it in 4 weeks if I would have been efficient in my studying and not had the work issues I had.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble, my point is I would not risk cramming for this exam again (or any other part of this nightmare called a CPA Exam for that matter) so I definitely do not think 8 power days would be enough. Personally, I was hoping to finish all my exams by Thanksgiving, but now, like you, I see myself pushing REG back even into next year because of this set back. If I would have planned for more study time, I probably would have been able to stick to my goal. My plan of attack is to give myself 6 full weeks for BEC starting when I get back from vacay Aug.17th and looking into taking it Oct 1st. I do not want to risk it. It simply is not worth it wasting more time stressing over this. If I am going to do it, I need to do it RIGHT.

I think it can be done as long as you stay focused.
From my personal experience, I feel the best way to study for the CPA exams is to cram intensely. I feel that if you give yourself too much time, you are going to forget the material you learned in the beginning. For BEC, after i went through all the lectures (3weeks), I had a cram session for about 4 days. Since i had such limited time, I never got to use the two practice exams at the end of becker because i run out of time. I truly believe it is not about the quantity of hours you put in, but the quality. Make sure every hour that you spend on the material is the best hour. 1 solid hour of intense focus is worth more than 3 hours of halfasses. Of course this style of studying isn't for everyone but it works for me and its gotten me through H.S, college, and 3 of the cpa exams so far. SO, I think its worth giving a shot.
Good Luck
Done ^_^

AmayMemberI agree in that if you remain focused and don't slack off like I did in the beginning it can DEFINITELY be done in 4 weeks or even less. Just keep in mind you will have to come up with a schedule that allows enough time to grasp each area without skimping too much on the material. Right now, I am doing a cram session for AUD (under 3 weeks) and started by going straight into MCQs. No lectures this time. It CAN be done. So GL!!!
