I have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

Yeah, that makes some sense. The question that prompted me to ask was:

Which of the following is true regarding PKI?

    a. PKI is intended for e-business use and is typically available through commercial certificate authorities.

    b. PKI includes a “tree of trust” that's checked each time a certificate is presented as proof of one's identity.

    c. PKI assumes asymmetric encryption to create legally-binding electronic documents.

    d. PKI refers to the system and processes used to issue and manage asymmetric keys and digital certificates.

I knew the answer was d. just because it is the definition from the book that I memorized, but I didn't necessarily understand why the others were incorrect. I suppose a. is incorrect because the PKI is the system that the certificate authority uses and it isn't really made available to the user. Answer c. refers to digital signatures. But I don't understand why b. is incorrect. The answer said something along the lines of “trees of trust” are associated with certificate authorities, not PKIs, but since PKIs are the system and processes for managing digital certificates and “trees of trust are checked each time a certificate is presented, why wouldn't “trees of trust” be included in a PKI?

I feel like Becker has thrown a lot of IT definitions at me but hasn't really done a good job of explaining how they're all interrelated. If the IT questions on the exam were primarily definitions and very, very basic concepts, I wouldn't be worried, but based on some of the Becker questions where I've had to apply IT knowledge, it could be disastrous haha

I took a progress test today on B1 through B4. I did well but all of the questions I got wrong were from B2. I guess I know my weak area! I am just having such a mental block with the cost accounting, especially variances. When I see the paragraph long questions for variances I am never sure which numbers to plug in where. I get PURE DADS its the overhead allocation questions that are confusing to me. Anyone else have same issue? Is it possible to pass BEC being weak in this one area?

    FAR 92 (2/27/13)
    AUD 99 (4/18/13)
    REG 93 (7/5/13)
    BEC 92 (8/12/13)

When I see a variance questions I look at the last sentence first, which variance do they want me to use?

    P – Price Variance

    U – Useage (quantity) Variance

    R – Rate Variance

    E – Efficiency Variance

Then write out your formula variance that they want from you. As you read through the problem write down all the information that you will need to plug in your answer. Often times they will give you a bunch of info that isn't even needed.

This has helped me to not get overrun with all that information at once.
