I have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

And now I'm coming across contradicting answers between Wiley and Becker.

Wiley says the cost of capital only relates to long-term and new financing while Becker says it considers all types of funds-short, long, new or old.

While I was reading the conflicting statements, my mind seriously just went “…”

    BEC (July 2013)
    FAR (OCT 2013)
    REG (NOV 2013)
    AUD (JAN 2014)

The CPA Exam is an opponent that not even the Fellowship of the Ring would want to come across.

    I have a long...long...journey ahead of me.

Just finished half of B2's lecture with Peter. Lots of information.

But I don't feel overwhelmed. Kinda' feel better knowing it's just a bunch of formula memorization split into several little topics. These kind of topics just come naturally with practice. Less of a “I don't understand this” and more of a “I haven't practiced this problem long enough”.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

    I have a B2 Question.

Would both the Contribution Margin and Gross Margin (Profit) both also be known as the Operating Income? I'm a little hung up on how inventory effects net income.

I understand that with the Absorption Approach fixed overhead is included with the COGS to get Gross Margin.

I understand that with the Contribution Approach fixed overhead is a period cost subtracted from Contribution Margin.

F.OH with Absorption is only expensed up to the amount that was actually sold.

The remaining sits as an inventoriable cost?

F.OH with Contribution is expensed 100% regardless of how much was sold.

Because F.OH costs are never an inventoriable cost with this method.

Is my understanding of this correct?

    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

@InfernoOmni You are correct. The way I remember it is that with absorption cost you ABSORB (or expense) the FOH as you sell more units. Therefore, you only expense the FOH related to the units sold, the rest goes to inventory.

In contrast, the Contribution (VARIABLE or DIRECT) approach DIRECTLY puts in inventory the VARIABLE costs ONLY, leaving the FOH costs to be 100% expensed.

    Hope this helps!

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂
