jeffKeymasterI have a question that I hope you can help me with…. I purchased the Becker CD’s and installed them on my PC. I have taken and passed all but one of the exams (BEC left).. I was checking to see if my software was up to date and noticed an expiration date of November 2013.. Does this mean my software ( downloaded from my CD’s) will no longer work after November….or will it no longer be supported but I can still take practice exams and do study questions etc?

luckycharmMemberHi guys – I am kind of new to this. So I took BEC last week in CA on 5/30/13 and I am BEC 513. However, BOA shows that they received my test on 6/1/13 under the status date. Does this mean I am in the last window for score release? Because I didn't get a score this morning and I don't know what to think. Or am I just in the BEC bubble? Please advice!
AUD - 4/29/13 - 87!
BEC - 5/30/13 - 75!
REG - 7/1/13
FAR - 8/29/13June 8, 2013 at 8:15 pm #440798

SeattleAccountantMemberHi everyone! Although I'm still waiting for my REG score (nonNASBA, snail mail state), I decided to go ahead and start BEC a few days early. I'm using Becker and have started ch 1. In addition to using Becker, I utilize old textbooks, Youtube videos, free trials (Willey, maybe CPAExcel this time as well) and for REG I've consulted with Ninja notes to clarify several issues that were not clearly covered by Becker (thank you Jeff for those notes).
My biggest concern with BEC will be writing sims. English is my second language, and there is always a fear that I'm not communicating effectively 🙁 On the other hand, I'm great with math, cost accounting and econ (almost majored in econ but accounting won). Hopefully, weakness in one area will be offset by the strength in the other.
I'm fan of Power weekends and hope to see many of you on that thread.
Let's do it together!
Anyone else is just starting BEC and using Becker?

SeattleAccountantMemberHear you about being unproductive at home!
During my prep for AUD, I literally ended up locking myself in the …walk-in-closet in order to keep an eye on several teens at home on weekends and simultaneously, to study. It was odd but effective 🙂 Imagine puzzled faces and chuckles on kids' friends' faces when every once in a while I hollered up for a drink or snack from that closet :0)
I'm sure there are stories now circulating about strange parent being locked up in a closet!
At any rate, looking forward to seeing you here, good luck studying!
Bwt, I'm also so bored reviewing ch 1 that most of it was covered in REG, just could not keep my eyes open, bored out of my mind. Hopefully, it is going to pick up afterwards.

AnonymousInactiveHi All,
I think I really need a study group to keep me on task. This will be my 5th attempt a BEC. I have no idea why I cannot pass this one, so I am changing strategies and test prep software. I am adding Ninja notes and anything else that may be helpful. I sat down to start studying to day and stressed myself out with self doubts and trying to overcome my hatred for this section. But, I will NOT quit.

AnonymousInactiveThis is probably so corny, BUT i just thought of a good way to remember SOX Title 3 and 4 materials.
For Sarbanes-Oxley Title III – Think the letter “C” because it is the 3rd letter of alphabet and Letter “C” Because Title 3 has to do with Corporate Responsibility! This is also a small rhyme, lol.
For Sarbanes-Oxley Title IV – Think the letter “D” because is is the 4th letter in alphabet and the letter “D” goes with disclosures which is the focus for this section of SOX.
Small but it will help I think.

joch0803MemberThat is hilarious!! Unfortunately, my closet is pretty much a hole in the wall behind a door haha.
While I “enjoyed” the lectures for Becker in the other sections, I absolutely hate the BEC ones. They are very long, repetitive, and in my opinion, go over board on judging our stupidity.
This section has been the toughest for me so far, chapter 2 and 3 are beasts! My first time attempting at studying I quickly picked up the bad habit of skipping the long problems and only doing conceptual. Of coarse that left me all of the long calculation problems for review ….obviously that did not work out well.
My new plan is doing chapter two and three first, reading the chapter, taking notes, and doing all homework, but the optional problems. I don't let myself skip any problems. If I feel I am getting impatient or bored I take a break leaving at that problem.
So far, so good. As I am working my way thru the problems I am increasingly getting better and my confidence is increasing. I am almost getting excited about studying again, something I haven't felt since I first started last November.
Anyways, hope everyone is having a happy and productive weekend : )

Chapter 2 & 3 are indeed beasts. My strategy is to just get best understanding possible on these two chapters. My main focus like others have said, is chapter 1(corp Gov), 4 (IT), & 5 (Econ) = 60% of the exam. Get those and a decent understanding of the rest and I think you have a good shot.
