    Hi there,,,
this is my first post here

I would share with you my suffering with my first section in my CPA jurney

I have sat for my first CPA exam on 20 April 2016, it was BEC section and I scored 33,

Then I have retaken the exam on 5 July and the score decreased to 24!

On 1st November, was my last and third attempt and I just checked my score now and unfortunately scored (65)! I am literally angry now !!

Please mindful that I study for every attempt at least two months using Roger’s Video Classes, Books, Cram Books, Ninja points and did 700 question before set for each exam.

Honestly, I most focus on MCQs and the books because I don’t think that I am visual learner and I am not native English speaker as well, I have watched 33% videos in BEC.

Anyway, my target now became to pass BEC and REG before the new version in next April,

Can you please help me guys with best advises to pass these two section as fourth time for BEC and first time for REG 🙁

My plan is to take BEC on 2 January and REG on 9 March, I really don’t have any background about taxation as there is no tax in our country and did not study that. Sometime I think to postpone REG until I don’t know! and concentrate on BEC to at least can pass one section before new version so take the BEC on last day ( 9 March ).

This time of studying BEC I will concentrate only on Ninja MCQs and beat 3000 extra question , only doing MCQs, do you think this working ? last time I have solved only 700 questions including review I think its not enough.

    Please advise me people

Although I often failed with very low marks and always feel that I am hopeless, but I don’t want to give up.

    Thanx in advance

You need to do about four times that number of MCQ. I did between 50-100 mcq a day when I was studying. And when you say you studied two months, can you quantify the number of hours? Are you studying 20-25 hours per week?

I agree with mla, if you feel you'll learn more from MCQ, you need to do somewhere between 2000-5000. I would get all of the ninja product, especially with the black friday sale this week, bogo, you can cut the cost a lot.

I pretty well past all 4 with only Ninja, 3 on my first attempt and FAR on my second. You can do it, but it doesn't seem like 700 mcq is enough!

    Good luck!

I wouldn't cut out books completely, you should have them as a reference also for topics you just can't understand.

I typically spent 1 week reading the book, then the rest of the time was 100-200 mcq a day for 3-5 weeks. I would also write and rewrite the ninja notes, and listen to the ninja audio while I was driving/mowing.

@Abdul, I also failed BEC (70) and i am studying Roger CPA Review. I think lectures of Rogers are fun to watch but i prefer to do ninja MCQs as it seems more like CPA exam/test than easier Roger CPA's MCQ(just my opinion). After failing FAR, i recently passed FAR using Roger+ Ninja MCQ. Also do not focus equally on each topic as some topic are tested heavily. Additionally do not be afraid to tackle hard question( even though it is sometime headache) as it will prepare for you the worse. Like you, i am also hoping to pass BEC next month. Good luck.

I also can't pass Bec! My scores were 70,74,73. For the last two tests, I got stronger on MC and weaker on WC. What is your score report like? I am also an ESL candidate and writing communication is not easy for me.
I have used Roger, Gleim, fast forward academy, Wiley and ninja but still can't pass! I think Wiley is good for MC. I really think we should do well on WC to pass. For all three attempts, I had only 30 minutes for WC and got weaker performance… so frustrated!

Hope we both can beat Bec next time.

Each person is different, but I usually monitored my progress on how many MCQs I attempted. I completed 4,000 MCQs in 4 weeks before BEC and passed. For REG, I completed roughly 1,600 questions in 3 weeks and passed. I failed FAR twice when I completed 4,500 and 1,800 questions.

Ninja notes will help big time as well (rewrite at least 3 times). It will give you structure and help you think big picture when you are doing 2,000+ mcqs. Aim for at least 1 minute per question when studying until your trending score gets above 75%. It will really come down to amount of effort you put in. It's going to suck but your hard work will pay off.

Hmm, one I would buy NINJA. Best price there is. It's $47 and you get like 1300 questions. Also do the Roger's question. Don't memorize, even if you know the answer. Make an effort to work out the problem regardless.

Since you aren't a native english speaker, I would, perhaps, write out some practice ones? It's a little iffy, but they grade mostly on grammar and whether you have key words. The best way to practice is to read a LOT of them. So you KNOW what they're looking for and what you should to write.

Abdulmajid: I think it is also important to note how much you improved in your last attempt. You went from a 24 to a 65. That's a 41 point increase! The exams are tough but whatever you did the last time, it clearly worked. As people have suggested, do a bunch of multiple choice questions and you will get it next time. Good luck to you!

Mura: The WC is really more about writing skill than actually knowing the material. I know Roger says this all the time but I kind of did not actually believe it. On the BEC exam, on the of the questions, I honestly wasn't even sure as to what they were asking but I scored ‘stronger' in the written portion. I don't think you should even study for the WC; I probably looked at a couple of examples on my Roger book just to be familiar with the format and it seems like that served me well.

Keep working hard, I know how it feels to fail an exam but that just makes passing your first exam that much sweeter! Good luck!

Gsd: thank you for your advice. I know the business writing format is very important for this section; intro, body, conclusion and closure. How many paragraphs did you include in the body part? Did repeat the question in the intro and conclusion? any other tips that I can use from your experience? Thank you!
