Hey everyone, I really need some advice and can’t think of anyone else to reach out to except for the people on this forum who have gone through this rough journey as well. I have been putting off the CPA exam for a while now but finally decided to study in April of this year. I had heard that BEC was the easiest test so I thought id start there-pass easily & gain the motivation and momentum to knock out the rest but this theory and tactic isn’t working out so well. I am using Ninja and Roger and am doing well on my practice MCQ’s but I am scoring back to back 73’s on my exam. I am embarrassed to say that yesterday was my 6th attempt and can’t imagine taking this exam for another time. I am getting so exhausted of the same topics but I am definitely not giving up. I know many people have an order for these exams like FAR, AUD, REG, then BEC so I am considering maybe moving on to FAR. Do you guys think it would be better to move on or just keep attempting BEC until I pass?

I’m currently on the CPA journey and recently passed BEC in August using only Rodger. I think you need to have a basic understanding for the material and then hammer MC questions. Read the explanations after completing each multiple choice question even if you got the answer right(in my opinion it just reinforced the material). I didn’t practice sims during my studying. Also on the written portion of the exam do exactly what Rodger recommends, tell them what you’re gonna tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them. BEC is the only section I’ve passed. It was on my first attempt but only after taking a break from FAR after two failed attempts. I feel I learned What study method best worked for me during my BEC studies. I’ve since re-taken FAR and am expecting my results tomorrow. Best of luck.

P.S. know your ratios for BEC

I agree with Ben's strategy for studying for the most part except I do like to do some sims. I personally don't spend a lot of time reading but I do hammer the MCQ. I've been doing around 2k per section and that seems to work for me. I'm sure you've done more than that at this point. Another thing I found helpful was looking at the exam blueprint and making sure I felt comfortable with what the AICPA says is on the test. The blueprints are really underused in my opinion. It can help you find the areas you aren't as good at and then select MCQ based on that. If you have the means, you may consider getting the Gleim test bank to supplement what you're doing now. In my experience, the Gleim questions are so much harder than the exam that the exam feels easy. Best of luck.

You dont need to be embarrassed Amy, look at my scores below. You need to know what was difficult on the exam and try to figure out the answers. You're the only that knows that. Identity all your weakness first, fix it and then tackle mcs and simulations. None of them easy for me, good luck.

    AUD - 78
    BEC - 76
    FAR - 80
    REG - 77
    FAR 80

    REG 79*,77

    AUD 78!!Final

    BEC 76

Adding ninja to Rodger will grt you over the goal line. Take a step back and forget your prior attempts. All they provide is familiarity with the testing process. Start fresh. Study to make 100 not just pass. Rodger is great at variances. Ninja is great for the mcqs. As someone said, read all answers to the questions to know why the correct answer was right and the others were wrong. BEC is a mile wide and an inch deep. You have to repeatedly attempt MCQs to master each thin topic. You can do this! Positive self talk is key. Conquer this one, then do FAR, AUD and REG. Set a goal, get it done! We know you can!

    AUD - 93
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 76
    REG - 88

If you want things to change you have to do something different.

    FAR 7/25/15 76!
    AUD 10/30/15 93
    BEC 2/27/16 82
    REG 5/23/16 88!
Ninja Book and MCQ and the forum - all the way!!!
and a little thing i like to call, time and effort!
